As we begin to step into the darkest hours of our lives please never forget that this world still has hope, and love. In which never believe that you are alone, someone out there cares about you, and about your life.

I lost my childhood friend to suicide on March 29, 2000. She played an extremely important role in my life, in which I loved her like a sister and admired her as a friend. I still remember the undescribable feelings I felt when I found out that she jumped off a bridge by our area, and ended her life. This whole experience has brought pain, sorrow, and a life time of healing to me and to all those who loved her. This is the only friend that I had that was always in my life, friends come and go but fate continued to keep Christina and I together. Although, as we grew older we were not as close as our younger years, but I always knew that she would be there for me, and I of her. Christina has taught me a very important lesson; the fragility of life, and the importance to hang on. This may be ironic that I say this because she didn't hang on. What many people don't understand is that depression plays a great role in the majority of suicides, and that was one of Christina's illnesses as well. Can you believe that even knowing her for so long, I never realized or never knew the extent of her depression. I always thought "Oh she's just in one of those moods again.", like all teenagers I thought she was just going through a phase. Well, I guess now it is a little late to realize it wasn't a phase, but it is not too late to help the rest of the world.

This is why I decided to bring the Yellow Ribbon Program into my community. Teenage suicide must be educated, and prevented. To all those who have suffered the pain and effects of suicide do not, and I stress do not want anyone else to endure the loss of a loved one to suicide. In all my life I have searched for a purpose, and the purpose that I have now found is to devote a part of my life to a wonderful friend whom I'll keep in my heart and prayers forever.
