In Memorium

My friend Patty Unnewehr passed away on May 3, 2007. This photo was taken last November right outside some of her closed pens. It is the last photo ever taken of Patty (l).

This website will be left as a Memorial to Patty and the animals she loved so much.

She has helped so many people in learning to properly feed and care for their birds therefore I will be taking over her email account at the request of her family and continue to answer your questions.

INTRODUCING: OUR NEW JAPANESE BANTAM COLOR!
Hi, I'm "Moonmist". I was hatched last year from both grey parents. I am a Golden Duckwing color, not usually seen in the Japanese. Two things are for sure: I am 100% Japanese & I am a beauty! My mom has owned all the Japanese Bantams in my background for three generations, except for my grandfather (2 generations). She will be trying to breed more like me.That's my hen, "Moonglow" hiding behind me. She's a little shy.
Here's a tip that has helped us on calming down a rooster that is too protective of his              hens: Take a plastic soda pop bottle & fill it with water. Punch about 7 small holes in the cap. When the rooster gets too fiesty or jumps at you, squeeze the bottle & squirt him with the water. Be patient. It may take a few weeks. DO NOT take other violent actions against him. You will only make him meaner. An egg laying tip: For young hens, put a "dummy" egg in the nest. We use the wooden kind. After they lay their first few eggs, we remove it.
Don't forget to feed your chickens extras from the garden. Our's love home grown lettuce, tomatoes, cantaloupe & watermelons, just to name a few. Below are some more pictures of our Bantams.
Hi, I'm "Sugar Plum". My mom thought I was a girl, when she named me...well, you can see that I'm a rooster, but she keeps calling me that! I'm the full brother of "Moonmist", above & the son of "Moonshine", below, & "Sugar Baby".
Hi, I'm "Moonshine"...I'm a grey Japanese Bantam. I'm the father of "Moonmist", the new color, at the top of the page & "Sugar Plum", above. This is my  hen, "Starshine". She is not the mother of them, but looks a lot like her, only she has more white than "Sugar Baby" had. "Starshine" & "Sugar Baby" are cousins.
Hi, I'm "Gomer". I'm a Black Heart Bantam & I stand very proud! There's a twinkle in my eye because I have the most hens...3! They are "Cupcake"," "Sweetie" & "Ragmuffin".
Hi, I'm "Ragmuffin". My real name is "Ginger", but when I was moulting, I looked terrible, so Mom started calling me "Ragmuffin". Now that I'm beautiful, she still calls me that awful name! I'm a mini-Bantam, too.
Hi, I'm "Cupcake". I'm a Black Heart Mini-Bantam. My mom was "Doll Baby" & my daddy is "Bojangles".
Hi, I'm "Giggles", a Black Heart Bantam.  I'm one of the two smallest hens that mom has. (Not counting the mini-Bantams. They are smaller.) My mom loves to pick me up & kiss me under my chin & I like it too!! I have lots of black hearts on the tips of my feathers. See them on page four.
