NCS Meet of
Champions: Hayward
High, Hayward CA
Saturday November 17, 2007
Course Description: 3miles on grass, dirt, and asphalt at Hayward
High.
Weather: Sunny and warm. No wind.
This Saturday
is what coaches live for. All 12 runners
who ran today at the NCS Meet of Champions ran PR’s(personal
records). It was incredibly satisfying
to see. I heard one coach say it reeks
of effort and desire. Which coach was
that?
The girls team improved their team time from last year by 4 minutes,
or an average of one minute faster per runner.
They did this without the fastest runner from last year. Leading the girls
team was Alice Ramos, who ran a big PR of 20:28
an improvement of 2:21. That time put her number 4 on the top ten list for BHS runners on Hayward’s
NCS course. Jennifer Barra
came in next with a fantastic NCS debut race.
Her time 21:14 put #8 on the
top ten list.
Close behind was Anna Guth with a time of 21:39 which put 10th on the top
ten. Rachal Lazansky- Weast and Rosa Weber
rounded out the girls scoring five. Rachal ran 22:47
with a fine NCS debut race. Rosa
ran 23:01 for a 1:12 PR. Coach Brian
is still smiling. Great effort ladies!!
On the boys side, the race was the fast NCS division 1 race of the
decade at Hayward High
School. In
the past decade there have been at most 7 runners a year to break 16:00.
This year there were 20 runners that broke 16:00. The BHS boys turned in the second fastest
team time in the last decade at Hayward High for BHS teams. Out of schools from our league they had the
second fastest team time. The average
team for our league: St. Mary’s 16:49,
Berkeley 16:48, Albany
16:54, Alameda 17:01. The team effort was lead by Austin Snyder who
ran 16:13 and moved to third on the
top ten list with an improvement 1:17. Nate Haile was next in for the Jackets. He ran 16:31
a PR of 1:26. Close behind was Jacob Horn with an inspired
race. He ran 16:41 for a PR of 2:13. Nate and Jacob
moved to number 4 and 7 on the top ten list. Brandon Reeves and Eugene Geiken rounded out the scoring five
runners by running 17:15 and 17:24; Brandon with a 1:10 PR and Eugene with a fine
NCS debut race as a freshmen. The
6th and 7th runners who displaced the other teams’ runners were Kevin O’Neil
and Jacob Harris. They ran18:25and 18:28; Kevin in his debut NCS race and Jacob
with a 1:07 PR. Great job!!!
Thanks to
all the parents and friends who came out to support BHS cross country
runners. It must have helped.
