The participants this week are Berel (BB), Wiesia (WF), and Neal (NS).

 

1 BB Yosef related to them the dream which he dreamt and they were not able to speak with him in peace.

1. WF Yoseph told them the dreams which he (had) dreamt and they were not able to speak with him in peace.

1 NS Yosef related to them the dreams that he had dreamed, and they were not able to speak with him in peace.

 

2 BB Abraham listened and behold a voice was speaking to him saying is man able to count the stars of the heavens,? For thus will be your offspring on this land.

2. WF Avraham heard and behold a voice (was) speaking unto saying, 'Is man able to co unt stars in the sky? Because thus will be your seed on this earth.'

2 NS Avraham listened, and behold a voice was speaking to him saying, "Is a man able to count the stars of heaven? For thus will be your descendants in this land."

 

3 BB Hashem spoke to Moses saying gather to yourself the elders of Israel and you will speak to them in accordance with these words.

3. WF And the Lord spoke to Moshe saying, 'Gather together unto you the elders of Israel and tell them according to these words.

3 NS And HaShem spoke to Mosheh saying, "Gather the elders of Israel to you and speak to them according to these words."

 

4 BB "With our (own) ears we heard G-d," our fathers related to us.

4. WF We heard God in our ears, told us our fathers.

4 NS We heard G-d with our ears. Our fathers told us.

 

5 BB Guard these words, write them on the tablet of your heart (can I translate using "the" since the possessive suffix makes the whole construct definite?) that I have spoken (pronounced, commanded???) that I am Hashem.

5. WF Listen to these words, write them upon the tablets of your heart. I, the Lord, am speaking.

5 NS Keep these words. Write them on the table of your heart. I, HaShem, have spoken.

 

6 BB And that day it happened that Moses was guarding his flock in the desert and behold a fire was before him and an angel of Hashem was speaking to him from the midst of the fire.

6. WF And it came to pass, and Moshe was watching his sheep in the desert, and behold a fire before him and the angel of God (was) speaking unto him from the midst of the fire.

6 NSAnd it happened on that day that Mosheh was keeping his sheep in the wilderness, and behold a fire was before him, and the angel of HaShem was speaking to him from the midst of the fire.

 

7 BB Seek Hashem with a heart (being) broken and serve him (thoroughly) with fear, and you will escape from the evil which he spoke against you.

7. WF You sought the Lord with a broken heart and served him in fear and you escaped from the evil which was spoken against you.

7 NS Seek HaShem with a broken heart and serve Him with fear, and you will escape from the evil that was spoken against you.

 

8 BB David heard that the king was seeking his death and he escaped from his hand and he hid himself in the mountain, and men from Israel were assembled before him and David became (for a) head over them.

8. WF David heard that the king was seeking his death and he escaped from his hand and hid himself in the mountains. And men from Israel gathered unto him and it came to pass that David became their leader (=head)

8 NS David heard that the king was seeking his death, and he escaped from his hand and hid in the mountains. And men were gathered to him, and David became head over them.

 

9 BB Please let me escape from the hand of the wicked who have sought my death.

9. WF Let me escape, I pray, from the hand of the wicked who seek my death.

9 NS Let me, I pray, escape from the hand of the wicked ones that sought my death.

 

10 BB The rasha said in his heart there is no G-d in the heavens and there is no judgment on the earth.

10. WF The wicked said in his heart 'there is no God in the heavens and there's no judgement on the earth'.

10 NS The wicked one said in his heart that there is no G-d in heaven and there is no justice in the earth.

 

11 BB The man asked Yoseph saying "who are you seeking?"

11. WF The man asked Yoseph saying, 'You are looking for me?'

11 NS The man asked Yosef saying, "Whom are you seeking?"

 

12 BB All the heads of the people were assembled before David and they spoke to him saying behold please you have grown old and you do not know the day of your death. And you are he who goes out and comes before us (???). And who will be (for a) head over us after you.

12. WF All the elders of the people gathered toether unto David and said unto him, 'Behold, we pray thee, and you don't know the day of your death, and you're the one going out and the one coming before us, and who will be the head over us after you?'

12 NS All the heads of the people were gathered to David, and they spoke to him saying, "Behold please, you are old and don't know the day of your death, and you are the one who goes out and comes in before us. And who will become head over us after you?"

 

13 All the kings of the earth came and they sought the presence of King Solomon to hear his wisdom that G-d placed in his heart.

13. WF All the kings of the earth came to seek the face of king Shlomo to listen to his wisdom which God gave into his heart.

13 NS All the kings of the land came and sought the face of king Shlomoh to hear his wisdom that G-d had put in his heart.

 

14 BB Pharaoh heard the works of Yoseph and he spoke to his servants saying is there found in all my land a man wise as he, knowing the word of G-d? For there is nothing hidden from him.

14. WF Pharao heard the words (of) Yoseph and spoke to his servants saying, 'Will be found in all my land a wise man like he who knows the things of the gods and there is no thing to be hidden from us.

14 NS Pharaoh heard the words of Yosef, and he spoke to his servants saying, "Has there been found in all my land a wise man like him who knows the word of G-d? For there is not a thing hidden from him."

 

15 BB Moses went down from Har Sinai and in his hand were the tablets of the covenant. And he spoke to Joshua saying "What is this noise in my ears?" And Joshua related to him that the Children of Israel made for themselves gods of gold and they called out before them, "These are your gods, Israel.!" And it happened when Moses heard the words of Joshua he smashed the tablets on the earth.

15. WF Moshe went down from the mount of SInai and in his hands were the tablets of the covenant and he said to yehoshua, 'Say what this voice in my ears is,and Yehoshua related to him that the sons of Israel made unto themselves gods of gold and prayed before them. And it'll come to pass that when Moshe heard the things from Yehoshua, he broke the tablets into pieces against the ground.

15 NS Mosheh went down from Mt. Sinai and in his hand were the tablets of the covenant, and he spoke to Y'hoshua saying, "What is this sound in my ears?" And Y'hoshua related to him that the children of Israel made for themselves gods of gold. And they called out before them, "These are your gods, Israel." And it happened when Mosheh heard the words of Y'hoshua he shattered the tablets on the ground.

 

16 BB Speak to the Children of Israel and say to them, "Do not pursue after the slave of your brother when he will escape from his hand and remember that your fathers were slaves in the land of Egypt.

16. WF Speak unto the sons of Israel and you have spoken to them, .Don't pursue after the slave of your brother's when he escapes from his hand but remember that your fathers wereslaves in the land of Egypt.

16 NS Speak to the children of Israel and say to them, "Don't pursue after the servant of your brother because he escaped from his hand, and you will remember that your fathers were slaves in the land of Egypt."

 

17 BB They called to you but you did not hear them; they sought you but you hid yourself from their faces.

17. WF They cried unto you and you have not listened. They sought you and you hid yourself from their faces.

17 NS They cried out to you, and you did not hear. They sought you, and you hid from their faces.

 

18 BB On that day, said Hashem, I will gather you to me from among the nations and I will judge them and I will exact from them blood of my children.

18. WF On that day, the Lord said, I'll gather you unto me from among the nations and I'll judge and I'll seek the blood of my sons on hands.

18 NS "In that day", HaShem said, "I will gather you to Myself from among the nations, and I will judge them, and I will require from their hand the blood of My children." (see BDB, pg 135 #5, cp Gen 31:39)

 

19 BB The king made for him(self?) a throne of gold. (Can Lo be used reflexively?)

19. WF The kings made for himself a throne of gold.

19 NS The king made a golden throne for himself.
