This site is updated as often  as possible. It is non comercial but sponsorship through any type of support is appreciated. It is in no way the most complete reference on Bougainville but we hope it may be of assistance to any person interested in the plight of Bougainville. The site is still in developmental stages and currently holds an archived pictorial reference of the PMG's activities of rotation 8A, 8B and 9A during mid 2000. Also a large picture collection of Bougainvillian Landmarks and People (approx 500). The site will be updated as much as possible. In the short term news is updated from PNG post Courier and the "viewers" page holds the info from readers or our sources in Bougainville. This section may contain, depending on info available, any thing from pics to articles.
Welcome to Belisi 2000
This site was inaugarated in the year 2000 during the Peace Monitoring Group Phase of Bougainvilles tribulations. It is currently quite static  and updates are few and far between, It does form a basis of information  detailing the actions of Peace Monitors and Local Bougainvillians.
The Bougainvillian Crisis began in 1989.  Since the beginings of the crisis Bougainville has found itself in varying states of freedom. From the period of violent anarchy in the early nineties to the currently brokered peace. For those of you who do not know of the history relating to the crisis there is an amount of information available through essays at the Australian National Universitys' Bougainville Resource Page. The Peace Monitored island hosts still over fifty Peace Monitors from the Countries of Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and Ni Vanuatu. The Pacific Islands Report by the University of Hawaii, describes the mandate under which the Peace Monitors operate and many details of daily living for the Monitors.
There are also several NGO organisations that are working to get the islands' next generations on their feet.
Ausaid has hosted several programmes developing infrastructure on the island and other organisations including St Vincent de Paul, Medecins Sans Frontiers/Doctors Without Borders (MSF), the International Red Cross, Volunteers Services Abroad (NZ) and the United Nations.
