Although several more have claimed it, there were only six U.S. presidents who were born in log cabins. They were Thomas Jefferson, Andrew Jackson, Millard Fillmore, James Buchanan, Abraham Lincoln, and James Garfield.

An article in an October 1905 issue of "Ladies’ Home Journal" quoted President Grover Cleveland as saying, “Sensible and responsible women do not want to vote."
Because of the U.S. Civil War, James Buchanan believed he would be the last president of the United States. Buchanan told Lincoln, “My dear, sir, if you are as happy on entering the White House as I on leaving, you are a very happy man indeed."
Andrew Johnson is the only president not to have any type of schooling. He was 17 before his wife, Eliza McCardle, taught him how to read. She was known for her commitment to his education.
While serving in Congress, Thomas Jefferson introduced a bill that attempted to bar slavery from all future states admitted to the Union, a measure that might later have prevented the U.S. Civil War if it had not been defeated – by a single vote.
