Sh?cril looked down at the nine tiny mottled orbs that were nestled inside his sleeping furs, Talmlar seemingly unprotective of her eggs.  That didn?t surprise him, of course- after all, green firelizards usually didn?t care one bit about their eggs.  Green dragons were a differant story.

Soon the green Sorkith was brooding over larger mottled orbs on the Hatching Sands of Dark Moon Weyr.  The estimated count by Sorkith was eight eggs. Normally a green?s clutch would of stirred up a bit of curiousity in Sh?cril?s mind, and the bluerider would of probably gone to see it hatch.  Ever since Impressing Azuth from the first green?s clutch at
Dark Moon, he found that he enjoyed the hatching of green?s clutches more than that of gold?s.

But he was more concerned about this clutch, for his blue Azuth had fathered it.  And eight eggs was the most ever from a green and blue pairing.  There had been six and seven before, but never eight.  He felt proud of Azuth.

And you should be proud of me! Azuth rumbled slightly as Sh?cril continued to look closely at the eggs.  What are you looking at those things for?

?I thought I told you,? Sh?cril muttered absentmindedly.  ?I?m giving one to Amathyst.?  A smile crossed over his face.

You did, Azuth replied.  But you?ve been in a stupor for the last few sevendays, ever since I flew Sorkith.  You?re happy that I didn?t chase after Wenaveth, Iraith, or Saporth, aren?t you?

?More than you could possibly imagine,? Sh?cril sighed.  ?But anyways, which egg do you think that I should give to her?  I can?t decide...?

The one on the bottom, Azuth said, and Sh?cril looked down at the smallest egg, feeling as though Azuth wasn?t being serious.  Would Amathyst truly appreciate the smallest egg in the clutch?  It has something special inside.

?Uh, Amathyst?? Sh?cril asked unsurely as she stepped into their weyr, looking slightly tired.  Sorkith, now very egg-heavy, was quite demanding.  ?I have something for you.?  Sh?cril fingered the wrapped wooden box, filled with sand.  ?I couldn?t think of anything that you might like better, and you know that dragonriders don?t get payed, so...?
Amathyst looked at him, a smile playing over her face.  ?I got you a firelizard egg,? The words seemed to come not from him, but from someone else.  ?And... Azuth said that it had something special inside.?

He handed her the box unsurely.  Amathyst said nothing, just smiled warmly at him, and Sh?cril suddenly felt that this was the best gift he?d ever given.
