Sorkith's Flight

She flies! Azuth said excitedly as Sh'cril just began to eat, and swooped down quickly to the feeding grounds.  Sh'cril darted out of the Weyrhall, Sh'cril's distinct markings making it easy for him to find him in the group of blues and browns.

Sh'cril found himself wriggling between bodies to get closer to Amathyst.  He settled for around five paces away from her, knowing that where he was now wouldn't matter.  "BLOOD IT ONLY, I SAY!" Amathyst shouted to Sorkith, who grumbled slightly.  "BLOOD!"  With a roar, Sorkith lowered her head down to the wherry's neck and drained the blood from the carcass.

She continued to blood a few herdbeasts, while Azuth settled for the less-coveted wherries.  He had just finished with his third wherry, when the green Sorkith shot into the air like a bullet, her emerald muzzle stained with a crimson red.

Azuth followed quickly, but was jostled back in the pack due to the fact that he was smaller than most of the other dragons.  Being an average-sized blue wouldnt' help him here- he needed to be bigger.

However, Azuth was older than most of the other dragons that were competing, and sneakier, too.  While Sorkith took the time to make the males think that she was going to continue straight, Azuth and Sh'cril had watched how Sorkith flew.  Although she was huge for a green, she flew like most greens- with double-backs and wingtip-turns.  He was expecting her to turn any moment.

Even though Sorkith was in her prime, she could only outdistance the blues and browns for a certian amount of time.  Their stamina was much better than her's, even if all of them had limited agility.

Get away from me!  None of you are good enough for me, you wher-brained blues and browns! Sorkith taunted, and Azuth purposely dropped back further.  It was obvious to him that Sorkith wanted to prove what she'd said; she was too good for any of them.  He thought that possibly if he pretended to give up...

Sure enough, just like he'd predicted, Sorkith made a wing-tip turn, and many of the blues and browns that were in front suddenly found themselves in the back.  Azuth was now in the lead, and he only hoped that it would be enough.

Back on the ground, Sh'cril was hoping desperately that it would be enough, too.
