Hatching!

Seharia was humming to herself as she read a letter from her family whenever Laria's shout echoed through all of the ground level weyrs. "GET THE CANDIDATES!" She shouted loudly, and Seharia threw the letter down on her bed, then grabbed the white candidate's robe from the bedpost where it had been waiting.

Changing wasn't made any easier by Tekka, who was darting about the room, screeching fiercely. "SHADDUP!" Seharia shouted in a sudden fit of rage, and Tekka flew to her shoulder, warbling apologetically.

Seharia took a moment to scratch his eyeridge, then bolted for the Hatching Sands. She saw many of the other Candidates, but not Taolin. It figured. He'd missed every hatching that he'd ever been to.

One of the smallest eggs on the sands was rocking visciously, and within a few minutes of dragon humming split open to reveal a leaf-green dragonet. It shook itself like the canines in the Weyr did after they'd taken a bath, then spotted one of the younger female Candidates.

Suddenly, though, it stumbled and Anakah ran forewards to comfort the little dragonet. "Be more careful, Mithalth," She murmured, then helped the dragonet on its feet and out of the sands. On the way out, she asked the green a question, but Seharia couldn't hear it.

Two eggs had been rocking during this time period, and split open to reveal a blue and a brown. The blue accidentaly stepped on the brown's tail, who whirled around in rage. Seeing the anger in the brown's eyes, the blue turned and lept for the first Candidate that he saw- who turned out to be Yolena. The girl told the blue that he was perfect, then led him off of the Sands.

Seharia had to bite back a laugh as the brown began to roar at nothing, but Revel ran over and stroked the brown's muzzle. "Shh, Nverath, it's gone," He said to the brown, still stroking.

As the new rider led the brown off of the Sands, three more eggs hatched, revealing a bronze, a blue, and a green. The bronze tottered slowly over to the males, and he seemed to be having trouble deciding which male he wanted. Glancing back and forth, he finally settled on Morhant, and walked over to the young man. While that was going on, the blue dragonet ran for Alcina, and the green for Anna. Impression was quickly made for all three.

Another brown hatched out, and saw Jearson staring at the sky. He decided to try and give the Candidate a scare. Sneaking up behind him, the brown let out the loudest noise that he could, which was a very loud squeak. It didn't scare Jearson, but he turned around and locked eyes with the brown. Stepping back a few paces, the new rider watched as the brown squealed loudly and lunged into the air. "Whoa, Caramith, calm down," He said, and led the brown dragonet off of the Sands and towards the food.

A green hatched quickly, looking around at the Candidates. She didn't seem to be too happy with the group that was on the Sands, until Taolin came running out. "Am I late? Is it over?" He asked, and the green ran for him, knocking him over and licking him with her long tounge. "Cut it out, Tilcanth," He chuckled.

Two other eggs hatched, revealing a blue and a bronze. The bronze made its choice quickly and ran towards Narisan, its tail flailing out behind it. "Whoa, Velith, slow down," The young man reassured the dragonet.

The blue was having a hard time choosing, and eyed every Candidate in turn. Seharia almost stopped breathing as the blue looked up at her, then felt anger and disappointment well up as it passed her for Amethyst.

Seharia's choked sobs turned into giggles as two green eggs hatched, revealing a lighter green and an average-colored one. The light green's egg had spun into the other's during hatching, and the darker green seemed enraged. She flicked her tail at the forehead of the lighter green, which stumbled and lay on her back on the sands.

Iapol darted forewards, and Seharia felt happy that her friend had Impressed. "Aerionarth," He murmured to the green. "C'm on, let's get out of here." He helped the lighter green up, and jogged off of the Sands with his new dragonet by his side.

Olapinal walked over slowly to the green that had hurt Iapol's, muttering lowly to himself. "It's okay, Relaith," He said. "I forgive you, don't worry." He turned on his heel, and the green followed him excitedly across the Sands.

Two eggs and three Candidates left... Seharia wondered wildly who would Impress and who wouldn't. The smaller of the two eggs burst open to reveal a dark blue, who dizzily walked over to the remaining three. It plopped down in front of Jesparen. "Come on, Soliath," He said, smiling. "Let's go."

The largest egg cracked, flashing gold into the room. She stared at the remaining two females, and Seharia almost thought that she saw the gold walking towards her. 'No, I'm imagining things,' She thought to herself. Surely the gold was headed towards someone else...

Suddenly, though, the gold stopped in front of her and leaned forewards to catch Seharia's eye, almost falling. I am Felathith. Did you not want me? You don't act like it. She looked up sadly at Seharia.

"Oh, no, Felathith, you're wonderful! I couldn't of wanted anything better!" Seharia said excitedly, trying hard not to jump up and down. "Come on, follow me," She said, staring behind her at the gold as it followed her off the sands.
