The Ryslen Winter Flurry

"It's not required or even suggested that someone has to go," Seharia said snappily at Palawan as the Junior Weyrwoman questioned her about the invitation to the Ryslen Flurry hatching. "And besides, we have Thread falling over the Geintal Beasthold area that day, and we'll need every dragonhealer that we can get."

Palawan was quick with an answer. "L'zan's out of action for now, and he's just as good of a dragonhealer as I am. Better, maybe. Not as good with books, but he's better with the real thing."

"I don't trust my riders with a Jr. Apprentice Dragonhealer," Seharia said shortly, and Palawan felt her temper flame up. She had a conflicting personality with Seharia, that was for sure. The Sr. Weyrwoman couldn't care less who's toes she stepped on, while Palawan got very angry whenever someone stepped on her's.

There was a hand laid on Palawan's shoulder, and she turned around to see N'ral, the Weyrsecond of Tarizal, standing behind her. "Don't press it," he whispered into her ear. "I'll get it worked out; I wanted to go, too, to see Kynde and Cixm."

Palawan spun on her heel and stalked out of the room angrily. "Seharia, Palawan wouldn't even be healing anything," he reminded the Weyrwoman softly. "She'd be flying in the Queen's Wing, and with Werane and her blue-green flying in that wing, it's not as if we're lacking in riders. You've even spoken about starting a new Weyr somewhere else because of our large numbers of queenriders."

"It's simply that I don't see this as a reason for Palawan to get out of her work," Seharia replied with a sigh. "And with Aminae gone to Dragon Fang Weyr, we need her to manage the wings."

"One day won't matter. Any new transfers can be handled by Sh'cril or Amathyst. They know what they're doing, Seharia." He stood defiantly. "And it promotes good image to go to the Flurry hatching. Palawan has a Candidate that she especially wants to see, and I've got two. We have two former weyrbrats from Tarizal standing."

Seharia didn't bother to turn it over in her mind. "Fine!" she exclaimed loudly. "Fine, whatever, I don't care, go."
