The Cambria County Conservation
District has been assisting the residents of Cambria County Pennsylvania
in conservation related issues since its creation on July 23, 1950. The
District has a staff of 7 employees and is overseen by 7 District Directors
and 5 Associate Directors. The District provides assistance to local farmers,
assists developers with erosion and sedimentation control plans and administers
several DER permit functions at a local level through "delegation" agreements
with the Pennsylvania Department
of Environmental Protection. The District exists to assist county residents
and landowners in complying with environmental regulations and laws. The
District works with both the PADEP and the USEPA
Office of Water on projects to restore and preserve water quality.
The Cambria County Conservation District works cooperatively with the US
Department of Agriculture, Natural Resource Conservation Service and
the United States Forest Service to
conserve natural resources in Cambria County.
General PermitsThe
Conservation District is the party designated b law to receive General
Permit applications. The District often is able to provide assistance
to local farmers and small businesses in preparing General
Permit forms.
Chesapeake Bay Cooperative Program, The Conservation District maintains
a program to provide information and assistance in appplication and implementation
of available cost share programs to farmers in the Chesapeake Bay Watershed
(Northern Cambria County) for the implementation of best management practices
aimed at improving or protecting water quality.
Conemaugh Basin Cooperative Program, In 1994 the Conservation District
received funding from the Bureau of Land and Water Conservation to institute
a cooperative program in the Conemaugh River Basin in Cambria and Somerset
Counties. The purpose is to provide information and assistance farmers
participating in cost sharing programs for the implementation of best management
practices to improve or protect water quality. This link has informationon

Cambria
County Environmental Education, The District's Environmental Education
Program is a state and nationally recognized program. The District offers
programs for students of all ages, including a one week Junior Ranger and
Junior Conservation program for students in the 4th through 6th grade for
three seperate weeks in the summer and much more! The District also provides
in service (1 credit) training courses for teachers. The District maintains
its own education building at the 1889 Park near St. Michael. The Disaster's
Edge Environmental Education Center was made possible by the generous support
of Cambria Co-Gen and other local busineses.
