This image currently represents a number of separate families in my clan I have been able to identify. To Navigate site just point cursor at family you wish to view and click!!

As you move around the site the highlighted family will change to indicate where you are

I have chosen this as the opening page as it is to this family (the one highlighted in green)that I can trace my line. Above this point the connection is has not been proven and joins with the work of another genealogist. It does, however, seem to fit amazingly well.

I think there is a compelling argument to suggest that all census listed here apply to the same family

#2
All adult ages are rounded down to nearest 5 with the 1841 census. You will note childrens ages are as given. Could only be a bureaucrat that could think up something like that.

#3
Perhaps Hannah was not the mother of either Mary or Caroline. While its possible I think she would have been a bit on the young side. It would seem that Thomas 1806 would have been lucky to escape statutory rape charges, considering the times.

#3
Its interesting to see that Thomas gives his place of birth as Warwickshire and not Southwark / London like in later census ???

Southwick is not in Surrey so It is possible that Thomas was born in Southwark, Surrey. In later Census he gave birthplace as London, Middlesex. I think the person who took the census details has a lot to answer for including his writing which is dreadful.

#2
I think that Caroline may have been the product of a previous Union. This seems to be corroborated by the age difference between Thomas and Hannah. I doubt that Hannah was Carolines mother. This might be a focus for further investigation at some time and may help establish a link to Thomas' parents.

#3
There is a possibility that Hannah's maiden name was Taylor as I can find a record that a Thomas Ballinger married Hannah Taylor on 24/5/1841 at Aston Juxta Birmingham, but, since there seems to be a Thomas Ballinger Lurking behind every 2nd tree in the UK about that time it is far from proven.

By the time this census was taken Thomas seems to already been an indentured tradesman as he appeared in the 1849 Birmingham Post Office Directory as a Cabinet Case Maker working from his home address. That suggests that he would have completed his apprenticeship by that time. That is another avenue I hope to follow up in due course.

I have placed this here to show how the next generation links to this family. It seems Henry & family were living with his mother just after he was married. Henry & Co were listed as Lodgers with no reference to his relationship to Hannah.

#2

More interesting is Edith Jones. Is she somehow related to this family. I note that by 1881 Ediths last name appears to transform from Ballinger into Jones ??? Could she be a granddaughter of Hannahs ??
