Chicago Harbour Light (View 1) Built in 1893 (the original was built in 1832), its first location was at the entrance of the Chicago River near the first lighthouse. It contained a third order fresnel lens which was originally intended for the Point Loma Light House located in California.

In 1917 shortly before World War I began, the lighthouse was moved out to the end of the harbour breakwater where it stands to this day.

Chicago Harbour Light (View 2) The lighthouse is not open to the public but you can see it well from the shoreline. Note that there are now different cruises (including dinner cruises) which go close by the lighthouse allowing you to get a good look and maybe snap a few pictures.

Chicago Harbour Light (View 3) My friend Gene Reisinger took these pictures of the lighthouse from the Ugly Duck cruise ship we were on for a birthday party. I could have kicked myself for forgetting my camera! Gene was thoughful enough to let me use these pictures. It was a great day out on the water! We all had a blast (minus my camera of course)!

Chicago Harbour Light (View 4) The lantern house sits on a 48 foot brick and steel tower, shining out its bright red beacon. (Yes, its still in use).
