REUTERS, Wednesday September 12, 1:25 PM Indonesia says it foiled two U.S. embassy attacks JAKARTA (Reuters) - Indonesian Foreign Minister Hassan Wirayuda said on Wednesday authorities had prevented two planned attacks on the U.S. embassy in Jakarta, but did not say when or give other details. "So far, we have been able to prevent any terrorist acts in Indonesia, including two potential attacks on the United States embassy as well as other individual (attacks) in Jakarta," he told reporters. Late last year, Jakarta police arrested a man they said planned to attack the U.S. embassy, across Merdeka (Freedom) Square from the presidential palace. It was not clear if this was one of the cases Wirayuda was referring to. Wirayuda also dismissed speculation Saudi exile Osama bin Laden, at the centre of speculation over the bloody attacks that hit New York and Washington, could be in Jakarta. "No, we don't have any such information," he said. "We have very close consultation with countries like the United States. They inform us about any potential entry of terrorists to Indonesia." The U.S. embassy in Jakarta was closed indefinitely on Wednesday. Security was recently beefed up after Washington received what it said was a credible threat against U.S. interests in the world's largest Muslim nation. Some international schools in the Indonesian capital also closed for at least Wednesday on the advice of the embassy.
