The Jakarta Post, 22 Sept. 2001 One killed in Ambon's bomb blast AMBON, Maluku (JP): A man was killed here after his truck was struck by two bomb blasts on Friday afternoon while traveling along Jl. Jend. Sudirman, officials said. The driver, Danci Wattimena, died instantly at the scene. The fatal incident shocked residents, as the usually volatile Ambon has maintained relative calm over the past few weeks. Local journalists said the truck had come from outside the city and was heading to the downtown area of Ambon. Carrying cloves and bananas, a sudden blast erupted at the back of the truck, followed by a second blast at the front. The second explosion forced the truck to stop moving and caused severe damage that resulted in the driver's death. Ambon Police Precinct chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Hasanuddin confirmed the incident, saying that police were still investigating the case. The situation around Jl. Jend. Sudirman returned to normal soon after the explosions. (49)
