Bomb blasts rock Ambon, two killed
JAKARTA (JP): After months of restive calm, strife-torn Ambon, capital of Maluku
province, was rocked on Monday by bomb blasts at an electronics store that killed
two residents and injured at least 14 others.
In another incident earlier on Monday morning, a strong blast in the Batu Merah area
in downtown Ambon left six people, including three military officers, injured.
An official from Bakti Rahayu Hospital said that those killed in the incident at the
Sinar Elektrik electronics store were shop owner, Mrs. Linggawati, 51, and her son,
Roberth, 25.

hospitals, namely Bakti Rahayu, the Dr. Haulussy General Hospital and the GPM
(Maluku Protestant Church) Hospital.
Several shopkeepers who were working outside around the time of the incident said
the blast came from inside the store.
One of the shopkeepers, Hanny Paulus, was quoted byAntara news agency as
saying that the explosion might have been planted inside a television set as the store
had had several televisions returned by locals that Monday morning.
In the Batu Merah area in downtown Ambon, armed men tossed a bomb into a
passing local official vehicle on Monday morning. The driver managed to kick the
explosive out of the vehicle and into the street where it went off, injuring six
passersby. Among thewounded were three military officers and a student.
Meanwhile, The Jakarta Post has also obtained information that gunfire was heard
coming from areas of Paradise Tengah, Teluk Ambon and that a car was also torched
in Galunggung.
