Blast rocks N. Jakarta church, two detained
JAKARTA (JP): Police have detained two men who are suspected of throwing an
explosive device at the Petra Church in Koja, North Jakarta, late Friday night.
City police spokesman Snr. Comm. Anton Bachrul Alam told The Jakarta Post that
two men, one aged 17 and the other 20, were apprehended by police not far from the
scene of the explosion after police became suspicious of their movements.
At least two explosive devices were allegedly confiscated from them.
No one was hurt in the explosion which occurred around 8 p.m. at the Protestant
church.
There was no immediate report of casualties with only minor damage to the church
and several windows broken.
The church was conducting a special mass for Maluku when the explosion occurred.
This is the second explosion this week. On Tuesday an explosive device was hurled
at the Australian International School.
