Dow Jones Newswires September 12, 2001 US Warns Terrorists May Attack US Interests In Indonesia TOKYO (AP)--The U.S. Embassy in Jakarta warned Wednesday that terrorists may be planning a strike against American interests in Indonesia. The world went on a terror alert Wednesday as governments urged calm and stepped up security in the wake of audacious attacks in New York and Washington that left people around the globe wondering whether their cities might be next. In Malaysia, for example, people feared the worst when a bomb threat triggered the morning evacuation of thousands of people from the world' tallest buildings - the Petronas Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur. A second threat cleared another skyscraper that houses offices for IBM and Standard Chartered Bank in Malaysia's biggest city. U.S. military forces throughout Asia were on their highest alert Wednesday. About 37,000 U.S. soldiers are stationed in South Korean, while Japan hosts a total of 47,000 troops.
