A grenade explodes at Australian international school in Jakarta
A grenade has exploded in the grounds of the Australian International School in the
Indonesian capital, Jakarta.
Mark Bowling reports the blast occurrred last night, well after all students had gone
home.
There were no casualties and no one has claimed responsibility. Investigations
suggest a single grenade was tossed over the school fence and landed near a
swimming pool. The explosion rocked buildings, shattering several windows and
damaging outside walls. After the United States strikes on Afghanistan, Indonesia's
radical islamic groups have made threats against the US and its allies. But there have
been no serious attacks. On MOnday the Australian Embassy in Jakarta received a
letter containing a suspicious white powder. The powder proved harmless after
laboratory checks by US military experts. Mark Bowling Jakarta.
