The Listen Method

The Method I have chosen is the LISTEN method, the issue I will be dealing with in whether or not to call into work.

The first step is to look for the facts to determine what the situation is. Here we are to view all the facts before seeing what else can happens. My work would not really mind if I called off, because it does not happen very often. If I did not go to work I would be able to go out. However if I call off I will not get paid and I will have little money left after I have to pay for gas and insurance. Also if I decide not to go, I coud regret it when I actually need the day off for something important.

The second step is to imagine the possibilities. Here I am to imagine the consequences of my actions depending on the choice I make. If I did not go to work there would be consequences in the long run, such as my work reputation would be hurt by calling off late and My boss would not think I am responsible. However If I did go to work, I would miss out on a fun time with my friends.

The third step is to seek insight beyond my own. Here I am to find someone I trust and ask them to give me a truthful answer and what they think. I could ask my parents but I would probably get the answer you need to go to work. I could ask my friends but they would probably say forget about work and go out. So rather I could ask my sister and see what she thought of the situation and help myself decide from that.

The fourth step is for me to turn inward. Here I should reflect about why I want to go to work and why I want to go out, and the pros and cons of each. I realize that I do not want to go to work because I really do not feel like working hard, and I would rather have fun on a Friday night then be at my job. I would also see that the positive of going to work would outweigh the positives of going out.

The fifth step is expect's God help. Here is where I realize that God is to help me through this decision. And think what would one of his true follower's do. They would not skip out on an obligation or a duty just to have a good time, rather they woulp put that duty above others.

The final step is to name my decision. Here is where I would declare my decision and stick with it. The decision would probably have been the more logical and moral choice from the start, that I did not want to see. I would finally choose to go to work knowing that I have a duty and obligation to be at my job.

Although the process takes longer than just deciding on your own, it helps out in the long run. Through the process you realize all the effects of your decisions and what choices you could possibly make. Even though the process took longer it prevented me from making a rash decision that I would later regret. The process is helpful because it covers all the angles of the decision and reveals some things I may not have thought of.
