Dear Letters Editor: Beware that brushing your teeth while driving is considered evidence of a crime. Never mind that fact that it's a great way to thoroughly clean your teeth and massage your gums. I contested a cop's contention that I ran a stop sign in Solana Beach, California. The motorcycle-riding tax collector admitted laying in wait to cite stick-shift drivers going up-hill for not coming to a full stop and burning their clutches to proceed through the intersection. Two witnesses following me said the cop did not have a clear view of traffic going downhill, like us. No matter, when the Commissioner heard the cop say I was brushing my teeth, that clinched it for the cop. The Commissioner concluded I must have been in a hurry. I was so flabbergasted I couldn't respond. The motto to this experience: If you brush and drive, keep your wits about you in court.
