School Demographics

Eloy, Arizona is an isolated rural community along the golden corridor on the I-10 `between Phoenix and Tucson. The population is 9045 with almost 80% of the population consisting of ethnic minorities. The district serves a school population of approximately 1,400+ students in grades Pre-K through 8th grade. Facilities include: one full Day Kindergarten and Pre-School, One Primary School (grade 1 to 3) one Intermediate School (grades 4 to 6) and one Junior High School (grades 7 to 8). The demographic breakdown is 80% Hispanic, 10% White, 8%African-American, 1.5% Native American and .5% others. Unemployment is at 12%, which when combined with the economic development in the services sector, gives Eloy the highest poverty level as well as 35% of the total county populations. In 1995, Pinal County ranked third in teen pregnancy among the state’s 15 counties. Santa Cruz Valley Union High School in Eloy, estimated 20 students were pregnant or parenting during the ‘95-’96 school year, representing 12% of all teenager girls enrolled in school at that time. In l995, 29 babies were born to teens younger than 18 in Eloy, The high school graduation rate is 66% and the elementary school graduation rate is 95%.
