I am seeking information on the "Iturbide land grant" for a research project.

This is what little I know: it appears that the Mexican congress, after the death of Augustin de Iturbide, awarded his heirs a large sum of money, which, due to budget constraints, was later converted into a land grant in California. With the treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo in February of 1849, California became a territory of the United States, and the Iturbide family was directed to locate its land grant in the Arizona/Sonora region. A surveying party was sent to the area during the 1850s but I don't know what came of it, if anything. I would very much like to know the " whole story " of the Iturbide land grant. If anyone knows sources that mention it, or has any leads whatsoever, I would very much appreciate a message at guy@catch-up.com.

Many thanks,
