Events in Concordia

Crystal Snowflake Ball
Our annual dance event, planned to be held this year on March 23, 2002. The mornings are filled with lessons, teaching the dances to be performed at the masked ball that evening, after dinner. We have live music for the ball in the form of our barony's own instrumental group, Vox Nives. Other activities of the day usually include mask-making (so as to have masks for the ball), a picture-pun game and a desert/subtlety competition.

Past themes of other years have been such things as 'Come as your Favorite Shekespearean Character' with the dances played in an order of an Elizabethan Tea to match, Scotland, 'Otherworld' and others.

This year's theme is "Outragious Garb." Suggested examples of things that would be appropriate are items such as 13th century Moorish in neon-camo hunter fleece, or crossing tudor with Norse-viking. Warning to those with sensitive eyes, fashion sense or historical propriety.

War of the Roses
Our annual camping/war event, held on Memorial Day weekend, at the Indian Lookout Country Club on Batter Rd. in Mariaville, NY. Much fighting, fencing, archery, dancing, singing and good fun for all, as well as including a brewing contest known kingdom-wide. Thie event is also the time that Baronial Champions for Archery and for Fencing are chosen by contests devised by the last year's Champions.

Lovers & Other Strangeness
A day of fighting, fencing, frolic and flirting with a feast and dancing to boot.

Pre-Pennsic Archery Event
A rather self explanatory annual event held in July, at the Rakawana Archery Club. Arrayed with a variety of shoots throughout the day, usually including such things as Royal Rounds, a Clout Shoot, Castle Window Shoot and Advancing Man Shoot; and somtimes including such period contests as String Shoot (closest grouping, measured with, of all things, a STRING!) Wand Shoot (an upright staff ~6 feet tall, stuck vertically into the ground in front of a background (e.g. hay-bales), closest shot wins)or perhaps other Novelty Shoots.

Bjorn's Ceilidh
Held in November, the time of Samhain(sow-AIN), the Celtic New Year's celebration/Feast of the Dead (now Halloween, All Saint's Day, Diu de Los Muertos, etc.). The baronial heavy-weapons champion is usually determined at this event in a competition determined by the last year's champion.

A tradition done at this event, in honor of the day, is what is known as Bjorn's Toast. At this event, the first toast at the feast (which is usually to the King and Queen) is to "Those who have gone before us." In this way we recall and honor Bjorn and other members and friends who are no longer with us.

Feast of St. Nicholas
Our traditional Eastern-European Yule-themed event. The usual contests are held thoughout the day, including best use of mistletoe, paper snowflake cutting, as well as dradel, chess and other games played to while away the winter.

20th Anniversary Event
Held January 20, 2001, at the Ukrainian Club in Cohoes. A day of fun and good food including the ever popular "Kyran's Stupid Picture Game." A small local event for to remember our history. Bring garb from yester-year or that theme event for the GUESS THE GARB game.
