Dictionary of Common Terms
Aaka (AW-kah): One of the three main dieties of Athanasia. She takes the form of a young, beautiful woman with silvery hair and deep blue eyes. She dresses in fine clothes, with a coat of white fur and feathered collar. She is the Goddess of Life and Light.

Anano (An-NAN-oh): Capital of the Bharos Islands.

Andun (An-DOON): A country in the center of the Dezelloran Mountains, mostly rocky, high-elevation terrain. The main industry is raising livestock; there's also a lot of mining and blacksmithing done.

Archaeologist: These scientists and historians specialize in discovering and studying ruins from bygone civilizations-mostly those from the Meera Era.

Ashill Swamp (AH-shill): Swamp in northwest Silefaer Isle, the home of the Swamp Clan.

A'tansya: Gryphon form of Athanasia.

Athanasia (ATH-ah-nay-zhia): A fantasy planet, mostly medieval in culture and high in magic.

Bharos Islands (BAIR-rohs): A series of tropical islands near the planet's equator, mostly jungles that supply many rare and unique flora.

Chandar Mountains (CHAN-dar): Mountains in the north on Silefaer Isle, where the Mountain Clan lives.

Clan: A group of halflings from an older outbreak of the plague thousands of years ago. After a war against humans, they withdrew to Silefaer Isle, which they hid with magic and cut themselves off from the rest of the world. They have seperated into six clans: Plains, Water, Forest, Mountian, Desert, and Swamp.

Demi: Currency on Athanasia. Round metal chips, there's only one denomination. They're rather cumbersome to use, so most people operate through barter and just assign a number of demis to goods to determine worth.

Dezelloran Mountains (Deh-zeh-LORE-en): The largest mountain range on Athanasia, covering a sizeable chunk of the western side of the continent.

Desert Clan: A clan on Silefaer Isle who live in the central desert. They appear to be a mix of different desert-living animals, and vary a lot in appearance. They have a reputation for being ruthless, and/bor theives. 

Drake: Smaller, horse-sized relatives of the dragons, but not as intelligent, they come in the same color-range. Their scales are hard, but lack the magic-resistance of true dragons and are more easily killed. They have a crest of thick, spiny fur on their necks, backs, and tail. They travel in small packs to hunt, but drakes are constantly joining and breaking away from the group, so the members are always changing.

Dragon: Large, lizard-like creatures that must bond to a sentient creature or die, due to a wizard's curse. They have scales that repel magic and the ability to breath fire. They come in eight colors: green, blue, orange, yellow, brown, red, white, black.

Duluon (Doo-LOO-on: Northern country, over half of it is tundra. Most people live in the evergreen forests in the south end of it.

Engineer: These people specialize in repairing and studying technology recovered from ruins of the Meera Era. Though most of the knowledge of how to create the technology has been lost, they concentrate on using what's already been discovered, and also keeping the machines in good repair.

Emporer's Council: A group of noblemen, one from each province, who assist the Emporer is creating laws and running the country. They are usually selected by the members of their province, but the Emporer can override it if he wishes.

Era: The time span between the rise of a civilisation and its end. So far there have been three: The Dragon Era, Meera Era, and Human Era. Athanasia is currently in the midst of the Human Era.

Forest Clan: A clan on Silefaer Isle who live in the eastern forest. They appear to be a mix of different forest and jungle-living animals, and vary a lot in appearance.

Gryphon: Half-bird half-lion creatures, intelligent and sentient, though they live in the wild. They possess magic, though they rarely see the need to use it. They travel in prides which often fight with each other. They have their own language, but refuse to speak it around other races. They can speak common, but always with a gryphonic accent, with added 's', 'k' and 't' sounds.

Halcyon (HAL-see-on: The capital city of Whinthcer and later the entire Empire. The home of the Royal Palace.

Halfling: A half-human, half-animal person. The result of a magical plague, they are capable of using magic and have the features of various animals. Normal humans look down on them.

Halt'syon: Gryphon form of Halcyon, the capital city.

Highsond (HIGH-sond: Capital of Vausland.

Host: A person or creature who is bonded to an Athanasian dragon; a rider, a bondmate. Those hoping to bond dragons are also called hosts, but they would more accurately be called
potential hosts, or candidates.

Hyddi (HIH-dee): Small creatures that look like a cross between goats and deer. Roughly the size of a goat, they have long, floppy ears, shaggy fur, cloven hooves, and the males have curving horns on their heads. They travel in large herds, sometimes with a unicorn for additional protection from predators. They are also often domesticated.

Iahlor (EYE-ah-lore): Capital of Thaya.

Imaru (Ee-MAR-oo): One of the three main dieties on Athanasia. He takes the form of a young boy about ten years old, with sandy-colored hair and bright green eyes. He likes to appear as a poor beggar boy. He is the caretaker of the planet and God of Magic.

Ilynn (IL-ee-in): Small island north of the Mainland Continent. Very cold and icy, the only activity is on the southern tip of the island.

Junabi Desert (Joo-NAH-bee): Large desert on the Lesser Continent surrounding the Ormengo Range, few humans live in it.

Karahjnate Mountains (Kair-RAH-nate): A small mountain range in eastern Athanasia, home to a high number of gryphon prides.

Kalei (Kah-LAY): Large country in eastern Athanasia, with a wide variety of climates. There are mountains and coniferous forests inthe north, while the southern half has a vast rain forest and river chain.

Khiro (KAI-roh): Capital city of Vurda.

k'Rajnate Mountains: Gryphon form of Karahjnate Mountains.

Laghden (LAG-den): Capital of Nardo.

Lesser Continent: Roughly a third the size of the Mainland Continent, located in the Southern Hemisphere. Mostly deserts and empty mountains, contains very odd and unique flora and fauna.

Lurlian (LUR-lee-en): Country of lakes, famous for its harbors and waterways. A pacifistic and peaceful country.

Mainland Continent: Large continent in the Northern Hemisphere of Athanasia, where most of the countries are located.

Marlaan (Mar-LAHN): Seaside country, mostly fishing and shipping. The inland is hilly and rocky with little farmland, they trade for much of their food.

Meera (MEE-rah): An ancient race that has now disappeared from Athanasia. They are responsible for most of the advanced technology that the humans now use. Very little is now known about them now.

Mibon (MEE-bon): Capital of Ralein.

Mind-speak: Telepathy. Speaking to another with your mind. Used by the Meera, they can talk to anyone except for the rare mind-deaf, it doesn't include reading others' minds.

Minndon (MIN-den): Capital of Duluon.

Mogh Desert (Moh-g): A sizeable desert, covers most of the country of Vurda.

Mossdeep Forest: Thick forest on the eastern end of Silefaer Isle, where the Forest Clan lives.

Mountain Clan: A clan on Silefaer Isle who live in the northern mountains. They appear to be a mix of different mountain-living animals, and vary a lot in appearance. They have a reputation as warriors and superb blacksmiths.

Naedre: A now-extinct race of half-human half-dragon people, possibly forerunners to the halflings. They were magically created by a pair of geneticists in the Dragon Era, and eventually overthrew the Dragon Lords and formed their own Empire, which was in turn destroyed by humans, after which the naedre died out, except for a few who may or may not have found their way offworld...

Nardo (NAR-doh): A wealthy country due to mineral ore mines and vast taiga land that provides lumber. Hilly, mountainous region.

Nenore (Neh-NOR): The capital city of Lurlian. Located on the Nalurna River.

Noaon Desert (NOH-an): Large desert in the center of Silefaer Island, where the Desert Clan lives in wandering tribes.

Nynacaeve (NIGH-nah-kayv): Capital of Kalei

Ormengo Range (Or-MEN-go): Mountain range on the Lesser continent. Mostly uninhabitable.

Oroque (OR-oh-cyu): Capital of Ilynn. Port city.

Plains Clan: A clan on Silefaer Isle who live on the western plains. They appear to be a mix of different plains or grassland-living animals, and vary a lot in appearance.

Ralein (RAH-layn): A very lush, jungle region. Also has lots of ports and harbors, due to its sizeable river system and bay.

Rildyn (RIL-den): Capital of Marlaan.

Sadath (Sah-DATH): Capital of Taran.

Saurii (SOW-rii): One of the three main dieties on Athanasia. He takes the form of a handsome older man with silver-touched black hair and red-brown eyes. He dresses in fine, black clothes, as though in mourning. He is the God of Death and the Underworld.

Shato-Youma (SHAH-toh YOO-mah): A huge castle-turned city inhabited by dragons and their riders. The main Keep, which was the original castle, is built on a large enough scale that even white and black dragons can fit inside the rooms comfortabely. The Keep is also rumored to be haunted...

Shander (SHAN-der): An extremely reclusive country, they are mostly self-sustaining and stay out of conflicts. Known for producing a high number of magic-users in the past, but now little is known about its inhabitants.

Silefaer Isle (SIGH-leh-fair): Mysterious island long hidden from the rest of Athanasia. Inhabited by the six clans.

Sonasa (Son-NAS-sa): Capital of Shander.

Southern Foothills: Gently sloping hills in southern Whinthcer, the area where Shato-Youma is located.

Swamp Clan: A clan on Silefaer Isle who live in the tiny Ashill swamp. They appear to be a mix of different swamp or marsh-living animals, and being secluded, do not vary quite so much in appearance compared to the other clans. They seldom venture outside their swamp, and in fact, few others even realize they exist.

Taulon (TOW-lon): Capital of Andun.

Taran (Tah-RAHN): Country in the far north, mostly tundra.

Teagan Plains (TEE-gen): The large, western plains on Silefaer Isle where the Plains Clan lives.

Thaya (THIGH-yah): A very mountainous region, the people have historically been very close to the gryphon population. The only country to boast an aerial army (until the dragons).

Unicorn: A horse-like creature with a tufted tail, cloven hooves, and a long, spiralling horn on their forehead. Not sentient or magical, though smarter than a normal horse, and unicorns are often crossbred with horses. They are favored by nobles over horses for their appearance and heightened intelligence. Wild unicorns avoid their own kind except in mating season, but are often seen traveling with a herd of hyddi.

Vausland (VOWS-land): The name of the single country on the Lesser Continent largely desert, most of the population is situated on the northern plains.

Vurda (VER-dah): Desert country, vast and hot. Very warrior-like and militarily powerful. Little river-transportation, but there's a lot of trading via caravans through the desert.

Water Clan: A clan on Silefaer Isle who live by the sea, in the southern harbor. They appear to be a mix of different sea or water-living animals, and vary a lot in appearance.

Whinthcer (WINTH-ser): An old, large, and powerful country and the area where the capital of the Empire is located. Formerly ruled by the benevolent Reyell family, when Tarivan came to power, he usurped the throne and killed all but the youngest daughter, who escaped. Whinthcer also contains Shato-Youma, the dragon Keep.
