Tone is basically the attitude and point of view being created through different language devices such as rhetorical devices, punctuation, sentence structure, syntax, and diction. For example short sentences with exclamation marks along with certain negative words such as "you fat worthless piece of lard!" probably convey a tone of furiousity and anger since you wouldn't be called "worthless" and "fat" in the same sentence unless the speaker was really pissed.
