My Rambles 2001

May 2, 2001

I really should import my live journal posts here. Maybe I will. It's been a interesting year since I last posted a note here.

I've begun to visit more comic writers forums, in particular, Warren Ellis and Brian Wood, who like me, have a forum on Delphi. Both Brian and Warren's forums are filled with interesting discussions on a variety of subjects, not just on comics, I'm a regular visitor on both forums and fairly regular poster.

Certainly seeing how poorly the US comic industry, in particular Marvel, treats the writers and artists, not just the readers, has been rather an unpleasant revelation.

I've taken an interest in researching the pioneering female mangaka of the 1930's-60's before the first big wave of shoujo mangaka in late 1960's. There is practically no information in english on these ladies. I wanted to rectify that.

I'm also working on my genealogy again, and finally working on getting it online.

And here's the big story- I finally got to meet Yoko, and even spoke with her briefly. :) I also finally saw a her do a live singing performance. It was wonderful! Powerful, fun, emotional. Seeing her give herself to the music right in front of my eyes was an incredibly emotionally powerful moment.

I also got to meet one of my close friends of many years for only the second time face to face, for the first time in 13 years. I also meet a couple of other friends I had never seen in person but had spoken to them numerous times via letters and later e-mail. The only regret is that we didn't have a day where we all could get together and just talk away the day at a restuarant. Perhaps next time. At least Marsha, her husband Tom and I had some time for that. I just wish Kevin C., Kevin G., and Phil had been able to as well.
