... By following one of the many links to my fiction writing, I should tell you that I have taken much it off the site for the reasons explained below.

... Looking for any of my (professional) non-fiction writing, please see below or look for the periodicals, other publications, or institutional documents in which they have appeared.

Writing - Fiction

The prose fiction and poems which I formerly made available on this site were mostly written last century. I no longer felt they gave a good picture of my current work, and they were not representative of much of my earlier work. The writings belonged mostly to a period of neo-imagist poems, and longer fictions about New Zealand's issues of cultural identity.

My story Easter is the beginning of winter was awarded “Highly Commended” in the 2003 Commonwealth Broadcasting Association Short Story Awards – click on the title to download, read it here, or listen to Michael McGrath read it with a mid-Tasman accent for the CBA on MP3.

Some New Zealanders don't like it because they feel it is too “Kiwi Gothic”. I was a bit surprised at that comment because I thought I was writing mostly about the seasonal paradox of celebrating the rebirth/renewal of Easter at the commencement of winter in the Antipodes, and also about the father/son relationship in the symbolism of Easter. Interestingly enough, this was the way it has generally been received by overseas readers and listeners. You be the judge!

While I continue to write fiction, my current projects are book length fiction, and must fit around a busy professional and family life. I'm not inclined currently to put any other material up on the Web.

Writing - Non-Fiction

While I have written quite extensively on business strategy, organisational structure, intra-group revenue allocation and pricing, or tax and some related topics, much of this is embedded either in academic writing, professional trade publications, or authored under institutional names. I am currently working on a bigger project.

One of my colleagues and I presented a case study and paper entitled “Dealing With The Sales Offices: Transfer Pricing Tools” at the Institute of Chartered Accountants of New Zealand 2003 Tax Conference in Christchurch. The Powerpoint presentation and case study, can be found here, and the accompanying paper in PDF format can be found here.
