Green Gown
or "Green With Envy"

This was my final project for my Structure and Fit class. We kept a sketchbook over the course of the semester and gathered a collection of random designs. From these we then chose a line of five garments, one of which we created as our final.

I am currently reworking this gown. Check back for updates.

The Dress
After choosing the design, I drafted a pattern from a size 12 sloper, tested the fit with a muslin mock-up, and then after corrections, made the final garment. With the muslin, I found that the sleeves weren't functional at all and I didn't really like the look, so I removed them all together and the dress was held up with clear elastic straps.

This dress consists of three different pieces: the bodice, the underskirt, and the sheer overlay. The empire-waist bodice is of green velvet and dips into a small 'v' in middle front There are two bust darts which meet up with two more darts in the underskirt. The bottom layer of the dress is made from forest green shantung and blind-hemmed. Over this is a sheer overlay of green chiffon sewn together with french seams and all of the edges and the hem are clean finished. The overlay is two inches shorter than the underskirt (to add interest) and the back of the dress is closed with an invisible zipper.

Again, much like the Three-Tone Purple Gown, this was one of the first garments I created without the benefit of a commercial pattern. So I would change a few things were I to do this again (and I am). I don't like how the bodice turned out and would change the design of it completely by reshaping the neckline and eliminating the need for the elastic straps all together. Also, the dress was slightly too big so this would also be changed with the redo.
