Due December 21,2004

I think my family has had them all. As a child I first remember a real one…Wow was it big! (or was I so small) Dad would carry me around on his shoulders and we would all dance around the tree.
As a teenager we had a foil one with a revolving light shinning on it. It had blue balls. I still don’t like the color blue for Christmas.
After I married the hunk next door we would cut our own on his grandfathers land in NH. That was some fun! I still have the receipt his grandpa gave us to bring it over the state line in case we were stopped. They were wonderful! After our Hansom our son was born and grew to about 10 years old he developed asthma and we had to have a fake one. I remember the first one looked like “bottle brushes” as the years passed we got another one that looked almost real and I would spray it with “balsam” ( it was the pollen that bothered him as the tree dried out” Our beautiful daughter did not have the same problem and understood perfectly.
Now they a grown with homes of their own. We built a new home on a lake that has a two-story solarium so of course we just had to have a tree that “fit it”. Well you would not believe our wonderful 16 ft tree! We have had many trees but none quite as tall as the first one.
The last few years we have been “snowbirds” and I just decorated our little Ponderosa Pine. Everyone that saw it called it our “Charlie Brown Tree” I even hung one red bulb and our "pickle" on it. (the only 2 ornaments). I cut a star out of cardboard and covered it with foil for the top.  We also did not put up many Christmas things as our house sitter would have to take care of them. I must say we did get a lot of laughs that year.
This year we are not going so we did get a tree and placed it in the living room. We love it. I am sad that the little paper reindeer that our daughter colored in first grade is beyond repair and “marshmallow man” has frozen and thawed for the last time. But there is still many left.  I even found some old boxes of silver tinsel and real “angel hair”. We can’t wait for the family to see it. It really is a trip down memory lane. This was going to be short and sweet but as usual I was caught up in the memory.
I hope all of you have a wonderful and blessed season. Sending you big hugs from our lake in Maine!
