19 july 2001

I was woken up at 5 am yesterday not because of a jetlag but because of a prayermeeting and accordeon music. Later we found out the pastors pray around 5 am. But also we found out that before breakfast, like at 6am all the kids gather together in front of the clinic and pray. Now where do you hear about kids doing that EVERY morning!
After breakfast, Corrie, a dutch lady who is a long term missionair there and been there for over a year already, gave us a tour around Zimpeto. She is in charge of the babyhouse so we got stuck there for a while. I picked up a 1 yr old girl, who has aids and gave her a bottle.  She got stuck with me the rest of the day.....LOL she was so sweet.

Everywhere you look around you there are kids. They jump on ya neck, want you to come sit with them and spend some time with them. They wanna sit on your lap and just recieve the love you have to give them.

In the afternoon we went to the beach with a dorm of kids, 50/60 boys. We all got packed in the back of a truck. And when i say packed I mean packed. Had kids all around me on me, every inch of the truck was filled. We ahd to drive like 45 min. One boy with the name Paullo came to me and introduced himself. He knew a little bit of english and wanted me to teach him more. He wanted to teach me portuguese. So i walked along the beach with him and he taught me words like ver (sea) and playa (beach) and we looked for nice shelves and we saw a group of other boys catching a little crab. Then some boys played soccer. They wanted me to play with them, but only if I was good at it!! Lol i said i would try.....we had fun :D i have no clue if we won or not tho.....

In the evening we had homegroup with all the foreign long term missionairs. It was a blessed time, worshipping and seeking God together.

This morning we adopted two short term missionairs into our team, a girl from Swiss and a girl from LA. I walked with them over the center and when we got to where the schools were we ran into some kids I went to the beach with yesterday, paullo, zacharia. The girl from LA, jane, speaks portuguese so we were able to communicate with them, that was awesome! Then we had to leave them cuz they were supposed to be in school! Lol
We then prepared a kidsservice we are gonna have later this week, some songs, a dance and preachings. I will be preaching about Gods love.

In the afternoon some boys where cleaning up the yard at the missionairscompound, big rocks in a barrow. They needed to lift it over a doorstep and I helped them with it. It went perfect the first couple times but then my right foot got stuck between the barrow and the doorstep. OUCH!!! I hurried to the cold showers but it turned blue and purple on both sides anyway.

In the evening we had church. It was the graduation of the pastors bibleschool, completion of their 3 months of study. Paullo came to me and asked if I wanted to dance with him so I danced with him and another boy I hang out with earlier, name Celestino.Celestino gave me a little piece of paper with his name and said I didnt had to forget his name now anymore. Then I saw he had written something on his had so i grabbed it and looked closer.......he had tried to write my name!! So sweet so I wrote my name on another piece of paper for him :D
I had fun during praise and worship, dancing with the kids. Boy those africans can dance!!! Lol. I didnt understand any of the preaching but I am sure it was blessed. Then we helped praying/blessing the 100 pastors who recieved a diploma. My leg really started to bother me and it felt warm and gotten thicker....yuck!
After church I walked back with Celestino (12yrs) and Zacharia (15 yrs). We sat down on a couch and just enjoyed the quietness of the night (and the noise of the kids getting back from church) :D
the boys enjoy their time at the beach. when we arrived they all ran into the sea :)
a couple of boys caught a little crab that they played with for a while and ofcourse had to pose with :)
My poor foot! OUCH! actually it looked worse then it felt. It looked like this at both sides. It looked like this for 3 weeks!
Riding back to the center at the end of the beachtrip. With like 50 or 60 boys and some volunteers in the back of an open cameo truck. Hardly room to move, kids sitting on ya, leaning against ya....it was fun, we were singing songs and clapping and enjoying the view of the city maputo. The boy on the right in the yellow shirt is Paullo.
