About Our Move

As of June 20, 2002, we will be living in a new home in Princeton, NJ. Here is a (sort of fuzzy) picture of our house:

Just kidding! My brother helped me with this web site and he thought it was funny putting this in here. For the real picture, click here.

The first thing you will notice, is that this house is two times the size of our San Franciscan Victorian that we loved so well. That means we NEED LOTS OF VISITORS! We are one hour from New York by train, and 45 minutes from Philadelphia, we are the perfect country stopover if you are on your way to or from either of those cities.

Princeton has something for everyone. If you come visit, you can go to the local theater with us (very good) or hang out at our local pool or hike in the woods, or row, or visit the University. Please come and hang out with us.

The genesis of this move was John's passion and career: rowing. He has been wanting to get back into some serious coaching since the Olympics in 2000 and got a wonderful opportunity to go and restart Vesper Boat Club's elite programs. (For more information about Vesper click here.) In short, however, Vesper is the oldest and one of the most successful boat clubs in the world, with a long history of turning out national team rowers.

Although Vesper is located in Philadelphia, we chose to live in Princeton and let John commute the 45 minutes each way. Princeton is a town we got to know in 2000, when John was an assistant coach for the Olympic Team. We fell in love with the community, which seems to have many of the same values as and a similar culture to San Francisco. It's actually quite a diverse town for a place sitting in Central New Jersey. This is partially because of the Institute for Advanced Studies, which is in Princeton, and because of the University. Our kids will attend an elementary school next year in which 20 languages are spoken!

The town also has a transient population, which we believe makes it a more welcoming place for newcomers like us. Many of the nearby pharmaceutical companies move employees from around the world in and out of Princeton, and the University gets its share of sabbatical-enjoying families.

We also liked Princeton because it is closer to our own family. From our home, we think we can make it to "Uncle Bob's Beach House" in less than 2 hours. We can also get to Boston by car slightly faster, where Mom lives.

If you're wondering what Anne will be doing, she'll be opening the East Coast Rosewood Capital office. (For more info about Rosewood, click here). An East Coast office will be a major endeavor and a major step forward for the fund. Rosewood invests in consumer and business service companies. At least half of the potential investable companies are on the East Coast, and Anne will be spending a lot of her time trying to find them.

The boys will be going to the public elementary school down the street which looks wonderful. Although we will really miss Town School, the kids will get many of the same wonderful things in the new school - music, art, small classes, etc. (click here to learn more about LittleBrook School (the kids' new school). They are also excited because our new property borders the property of their best friend in Princeton, Tom Walker, with whom they have been in close touch since we lived in Princeton in 2000.

So, now you know all! Please come visit!
