APEX
stands for Asian-Pacific Educational eXchange,
but APEX is not for Aisans alone. It is for any student who wants to learn
about different cultures and have lots of FUN at the same time. APEX was
started as a result of the rising population at Huron and the realization
that Asians should and deserve a voice in all decisions concerning the students
at this school. So what exactly is APEX? Read on...
P
eople getting to know each other is what APEX is all about. APEX has
in the past lined up some exciting events and activities, and will continue
to do so in the future. We start the year off with a welcoming event. Then
we plan for guest speakers to come to the school. have panel discussions,
debates, and cultural workshops. We also combine events with the Asian groups
at the University of Michigan. APEX is a great way to emet new people and
make new friends.
Every APEX member has fun. In the past, in-school meetings
were dedicated to many discussions. Perhaps one of the most successful events
was an APEX sponsored play perormed by the University of Michigan Aisian
American Student Coalition (UMAASC), which was enjoyed by hundreds of Huron
students from all ethnic backgrounds for the past two years. APEX has also
sponsored many other individuals to perform and educate the group about various
things ranging from Indian drum playing to sushi tasting. APEX members also
put together an "Asian showcase" featuring items from China, Japan, Korea,
Malaysia, and Taiwan. Community service has also been an important part of
APEX, in which the members would participate in activities like cleaning
up our very own school grounds. Fundraising has also been an integral part
of this club. Activities like candy sales and car washes help raise money
for the end of the year trip we organize for all of our members. In the past,
the school year had been drawn to a close by trips to Cedar Point and Toronto.
These trips are the perfect finales to a school year.
