MAPLE-PECAN BALLS
(Yield: 2 dozen)

½ cup butter or margarine, softened
½ cup firmly packed brown sugar
2 tablespoons sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon maple extract
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1½ cups self-rising flour
¾ cup finely chopped pecans
24 pecan halves
Confectioners' sugar

Preheat oven to 350°F.  Lightly spray cookie sheets with non-stick vegetable spray.

In a large mixing bowl, combine butter, sugars, egg, maple extract and vanilla; beat until light and fluffy.  Gradually beat in flour until just blended.  Stir in chopped pecans.  Shape tablespoons of dough into smooth balls.  Place, 1-inch apart, on prepared cookie sheets.  Press a pecan half into the top of each ball.

Bake 12 to 15 minutes or until bottoms are lightly browned.  Cool on cookie sheets for 2 minutes.  Remove from cookie sheets; cool completely on a wire rack.
