2½ cups self-rising flour
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
½ teaspoon ground ginger
½ teaspoon ground cloves
½ teaspoon allspice
½ cup butter or margarine, softened
¼ cup shortening
1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1 egg
¼ cup molasses

In a medium bowl combine flour, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, and allspice;
mix well. Set aside.
Preheat oven to 350°F. Spray baking sheets with non-stick
vegetable spray.
In a large mixing bowl, cream butter, shortening, and sugar until
light and fluffy. Add egg and molasses; beat until well blended.
Stir in flour mixture until blended. Shape dough into ¾-inch
balls. Place, 2-inches apart, on prepared baking sheets. Flatten
each ball with the bottom of a glass that has been greased and dipped in
sugar.
Bake 12 to 15 minutes or until lightly browned. Remove from
baking sheets; cool completely on a wire rack.
