CHOCOLATE OATCAKES
(Yield: 2 dozen)

½ cup butter or margarine, softened
½ cup sugar
1 egg, lightly beaten
¾ plus 2 tablespoons self-rising flour
1 tablespoon cocoa powder
1/3 cup rolled oats
Candied cherry halves

Preheat oven to 375°F.  Spray baking sheets with non-stick vegetable spray.

In a large mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy; beat in egg.  Stir in flour and cocoa powder.

Dampen hands.  Divide dough into 24 equal pieces.  Shape each piece into a ball; roll in oats.  Place, 2-inches apart, on prepared baking sheets; flatten slightly and place a cherry half in the center of each cookie.

Bake 15 to 18 minutes.  Remove from baking sheets; cool on a wire rack.
