Welcome To AmberTheBobcat's Home Page
On August 5th, 2003, my wife and I had something very special happen to us. That was the day our beautiful 5 1/2 week old Bobcat, whom my wife named Amber, came into our lives.
For the first few weeks, Amber had to be fed by hand, with a small nursing bottle. The formula she ate was whole milk, treated with Lactaid caplets and canned cat food, blended together.
Soon, she was off the bottle and eating solid food on her own. She is fed an all raw meat diet as her main source of food and at times, she will even eat domestic cat food.
Are you hungry? This is what Amber's food looks like...Dig in! We feed her raw chicken leg quarters and wings. She will eat bones and all! The bones and the meat provide the proper calcium and phosphorus ratio she needs in her diet. This allows her bones to grow big and strong. We also feed
Amber turkey and beef. Chicken giblets, hearts and livers are given as treats. A calcium supplement is added to all meat without bone and to make sure she gets the ultimate in nutrtion, we add a vitamin supplement designed for wild felidae, to all of her food.
By now, you are probably asking yourself, what is it like living with a bobcat in your home? Well, it is pretty much like having a regular domestic house cat, but on a much larger scale! At the age of just 5 months, Amber weighed 12 pounds. When fully mature, she will weigh around 30 or 40 pounds, give or take a few. We were told that her father weighed in at 60 pounds, but males on average, tend to be larger than females by approx 10 pounds or so. Even though I state that Amber acts like a domestic cat, you must always remember that she is an exotic cat and not a toy or just something that would be cool to own. Bobcats bond closely with their owners and
and you MUST be prepared for this. My wife and I are dedicated to providing her with a home filled with lots of love and affection. You must be prepared to give A LOT of your time to her. They can live 20 years and are NOT easily adopted out to a new home. If you can not give up this much of your time, DO NOT think of owning one. You MUST be RESPONSIBLE! Amber is not locked in a cage!! She roams free in our home, along with our 5 domestic cats, who provide plenty of play time and entertainment, while we are away from home. Amber also takes great pride in providing her house mates with the best of care. She loves to groom them.
After all that playing and grooming, it is time to take a nap. Here, you can see Amber getting some much needed rest with 2 of our Pixie Bobs, Aurora and Little Roar. Amber is in the middle.
