Our Day at Kalapana

We took a trip to Kalapana, a town which was covered by lava years ago.
These lava fields are all that remain. The farmhands all went to
work on a little shack for someone who owns land there.

THe guys working on the little shack. After working out in
the hot sun on the scorching lava fields, we took a little hike
through the Hawaiian jungle to a little secret private beach.

It's only about 200 yards across, and totally silent except for the
pounding of the waves. Amber swam out into the sea for a swim.

The waves, though they don't look like it in the photos, were
for strong swimmers only! Everyone took at least one fierce beating
by the waves on the way in. It's a lot of fun - if you like rocks
up your nose. Time the waves right, though and you'll be swimming
out past them in the bluest ocean you've ever seen!

Andy climbed up a palm tree and got lots of coconuts!
They were sweet and very delicious. Our friend Maria, a
little Hawaiian girl showed us how to open them and drink the juice.

David enjoying a drink and a cool Pacific breeze while other
farmhands get a meal ready. There were palm leaves for plates
and little ocean creatures we found on the shore that some ate
raw or roasted in the fire. The beach was covered in pieces of
shells and coral. Thus ends one of our best days here!
