(1.)                                               Christ our Substitute

                                                         (in the stead of)

Genesis 22:1to 14  :1 And it came to pass after these things, that God did tempt Abraham, and said unto him, Abraham: and he said, Behold, here I am.  :2       And he said, Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of.     :7  And Isaac spake unto Abraham his father, and said, My father: and he said, Here am I, my son. And he said, Behold the fire and the wood: but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?

:8         And Abraham said, My son, GOD WILL PROVIDE HIMSELF A LAMB(John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. :14     And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, ...   :29  John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world. 14:6  Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.)  for a burnt offering: so they went both of them together. ... :13 And Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold behind him a ram caught in a thicket by his horns: and Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt offering IN THE STEAD OF(in substitution for)  his son.

* In Genesis 2:17 ... in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.  In chapter 3: why did they not die that very  day they stole the fruit?(Ex.20:15,17)    Gen. 3:15 a promise seed(Gal. 3:13,16)  in verse 21 ... the Lord God make coats of skins, and clothed them.  Notice God made coats, skins come from animals that God made, the animals would have been killed, blood shed, etc. (Gal. 2:16to21; 3:6to8,19,26to29)

I wonder what kind of animals were killed that day, in the stead of  Adam and Eve?

Revelation 13:8  ... the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.

(1 Peter 1:18,19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:) (Heb.9:1,22,27,28;10:1to4; Eph.2:8to19; Col 2:9to17 “the ordinances law” Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.)    Col 1:16  For by him(Jesus) were “all” things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, ...

Can we ourselves do anything to earn  eternal life  in total happiness and peace?

Isaiah 1:18        Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.    :19      If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land:  :20            But if ye refuse and rebel, ye shall be devoured with the sword: for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it.

Isaiah 64:6    But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.   Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Does Love, Justice, Judgment and Mercy meet at Calvary?

Was there another way to be saved  other than Jesus suffering(1 Peter 2:21) and

dying(1 Corin. 15:3) for our/your sins?             Did  Jesus ask this question also?

Matthew 26:36 Then cometh Jesus with them unto a place called Gethsemane, and saith unto the disciples, Sit ye here, while I go and pray yonder.    :37  ... and began to be sorrowful and very heavy.    :38Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death:      ...  :39        And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.

Imagine seeing every sin in your mind in their fullness(Rev.20:11,12), and no one to “make up the hedge, and stand in the gap” for you.(Ezekiel 22:24to “30”,31)   Jesus had no one to stand in for Him, in His day of indignation,(Mark 16:34) will you?  (1 John 1:9; 2:1,2) (Rev.14:6to “10”)

Note “if ” the ten commandments(law of love Rom.13:9,10) could have been abolished,

(Isa. 51:6,7; Rom.3:31; 4:15)  Jesus  would not have needed to die!       Also notice that only God our Creator could be our  Saviour!    (Isaiah 45:17,18to21to25; Philippians 2:10,11)

Acts 8:26to :29 Then the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this chariot.   :30 And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the prophet Esaias,(Isaiah) and said, Understandest thou what thou readest?    :31        And he said, How can I, except some man should guide me? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him. :32  The place of the scripture which he read was this, “He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; and like a lamb dumb before his shearer, so opened he not his mouth:”    :33        In his humiliation his judgment was taken away: and who shall declare his generation? for his life is taken from the earth.  :34  And the eunuch answered Philip, and said, I pray thee, of “whom speaketh the prophet this?” of himself, or of some other man?     :35  Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus.   :36  And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?    :37     And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest”. And he answered and said,  I believe that Jesus(Mat. 1:21to23) Christ(John 1:1,3,14,29,41;10:33) is the Son of God.   :38   And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him.     :39And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more: and    he went on his way rejoicing.”

What was so important in Isaiah  chapter 53: for this man to believe about Jesus,

                                      before he could be baptized?

Isaiah 53:1        Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the Lord revealed?

:2  For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant(Luke 2:11,12,52), and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.    :3  He is despised and rejected of men(Mark 15:9to15); a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.   :4     Surely “he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows:” yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.(Mark 15:16to20)     :5         But “he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.” (John 8:24)       :6  “All” we like sheep have gone astray;(Isa.64:6; Rom. 3:23) we have turned every one to his own way; and “the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all”.(Isa.59:2; Mark 16:34)    :7     He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter,(I Peter 1:18,19) and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.(John 19:8,9)

:8         He was taken from prison and from judgment:(Luke 23:14to16) and who shall declare his generation? “for he was cut off out of the land of the living:”(Daniel 9:24to27;Mark 2:37to39) “for the transgression of my people was he stricken.”   :9  And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.(2 Corinthians 5:14to21)

(3.)      :10        Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul “an offering for sin,” he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in his hand.   :11         He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous(Isa.51:6,7) servant justify many; “for he shall bear their iniquities.”(1 John 1:9; 3:4)    :12            Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death:(Philippians 2:6to8) and “he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.”   (Hosea 3:1to5; 1Corin.6:9to11,19,20)

Can there be our at-one-ment without Jesus’ substitutional death and payment for our sins?

                                            In the day of atonement,

how was Jesus symbolically shown to be numbered with the transgressors?

Leviticus 16:15  Then shall he “kill the goat”(Matthew 25:31to33) of the “sin offering,” that is for the people, and bring his blood within the veil, and do with that blood as he did with the blood of the bullock, and sprinkle it upon the mercy seat, and before the mercy seat: (Heb.9:22)

:16       And he shall make an atonement for the holy place, because of the uncleanness of the children of Israel, and because of their transgressions in all their sins:” and so shall he do for the tabernacle of the congregation, that remaineth among them in the midst of their uncleanness.

Notice that as our iniquities are put on Jesus(who sin not), He becomes a goat who had as it were earned his wages. Romans 6:23; Revelation 20:12to14; Mat.25:46;  Psalm 37:20

Is it clear to you that as we repent from and confess our sins on Jesus that he is our atonement?

1Corinthians 15:1         Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you “the gospel” which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;    :2  By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.

:3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, “how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;”   :4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:  (Luke 23:45,46,52to56;24:1to7 basic gospel)

Acts 2:36 ... Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.    :37           Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?   :38           Then Peter said unto them, “Repent, and be baptized” every one of you in the name of “Jesus Christ for the remission of sins,” and ye shall “receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.”(Ezekiel 18:20to32)     :39         For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

1 John 1:9        If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.         John 3:5           Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

Notice that the first goat had to die for the sins of the people, that afflicted their souls. (Lev.16:15,16; 23:27to30) Before all sin/evil could be taken out by the second goat of the “then camp of the saints” not to ever be let back in to the camp of the saints.(Lev.16:20to34; Rev. 20 :1,2,7to9; 14:6,7,12) Also those who choose not to afflicted their souls by repentance and confessing their sins on the first goat,(symbolically Jesus) were cut off  from His people.

(John 3:3,5,16to “18” He that believeth on Him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

Do you believe that Jesus gave Himself  completely for you, like the Passover lamb was given

completely(Ex.12:5to10,23;1Corin.5:7,8) to deliver God’s people?  Have you excepted the gift?
