One Good

Are You Good Enough to save yourself?

ä“GOOD” adj. first meaning:  morally excellent; virtuous

äWho in the world is good enough to save themselves?

äMany people say I am a good person, God would not send me to hell.

I am as good as those people that go to church.

Some people that go to church say, I pay my tithe, I help in the church service, I eat right and don’t drink strong drink, I am good to my neighbor, I know that I am saved!

ä  While some say,  I pray, I have memorized most of my Bible and teach a Bible class.         I know that I am saved, God loves me.   Does God’s love and your works save you?

Rom. 14:23 ... for whatsoever [is] not of faith is sin.

Did  Jesus in the flesh consider Himself good?

ä John 1:1   In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and

ä the Word was God. :14   And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us,

Matthew 19:16   And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?   :17   And he (Jesus) said unto him,         Why callest thou me good? [there is] none good but one, [that is], God: ...

Has there been good people of themselves on earth?

äMatthew 19:17  ... [there is] none good  ...

äRomans 3:10   As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:                             :23   For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

ä1 John 3:4   Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.                                                                                          Romans 6:23   For the wages of sin [is] death;

Romans 3:19   Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law:

that every mouth  may be stopped,    and all the world  may become   guilty before God.

SIN REVEALS?

äSin reveals how close a relationship we have with  God through Jesus.

äEven though the closer we get to God,  the clearer we see our sins.

And you would never say; “I have not sinned.” Because of seeing the holiness of Jesus.

But did Jesus sin?

1 Peter 2:21   For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:  :22   Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth: :24   Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness:  by whose stripes ye were healed.

Can we in our fleshly bodies please God?

Romans 8:8     So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.

Isaiah 59:2   But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid [his] face from you, that he will not hear.

Did Jesus become flesh like us?

Romans  8:3   For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:

How did Jesus please God?

ä John   5:19   Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you,

The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.

:30   I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me.

John 8:28   Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am [he], and [that] I do nothing of myself; but as

my Father hath taught me, I speak these things.  :29   And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him.

Was God’s grace upon Jesus?

Luke 2:40   And the child (Jesus) grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon him. :42   And when he was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem after the custom of the feast. :49   And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me?  wist ye not that I must be about my Father's business?

Was Jesus born with all wisdom and knowledge?

Isaiah 7:14   Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.  :15   Butter and honey shall he eat, that he may know to refuse the evil, and choose the good.  :16   For before the child shall know to refuse the evil, and choose the good, the land that thou abhorrest shall be forsaken of both her kings.                   Luke 2:52   And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.

Did Jesus give us examples?

ä[How did Jesus start His day?]

Mark 1:35    And in the morning,   rising up a great while before day, he went out,                                and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed.

Revelation 3:21    Overcome even as Jesus also overcame!!!

ä  In Jesus’ personal time was there praise, and songs?

Wonder what Jesus prayed?   Forgive me of my sins, or give me what I want, like we do?   Was he praying for others,  was he praying for help, power and guidance to do his Father’s will? Was he praying for a closer relationship with his father?

ä  Did he talk with honour to his Father, and also as a very close friend as they built their relationship?

Do we use prayer as a tool like a phone, to build a close relationship with God through Jesus?  As you grow in your relationship, does it get to the place were you will talk face to face?

Did Jesus learn and believe in the holy scriptures?

Matthew 4:1   Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.    :4   But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

:7   Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God. :10   Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan:

for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

:37   And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and very heavy.  :38   Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me. 39   And he went a little farther, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible,    let this cup pass from me:

nevertheless not as I will, but as thou [wilt].                             PRAISE JESUS!  He did!

The people before Jesus’ advent will have who’s faith?

Faith of Jesus is the relationship He has with His Father.

Faith in Jesus is what He is doing to save you and me.

How can we have the faith of Jesus and please God?

John 15:4   Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.  :5   I am the vine, ye [are] the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him,

the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.

Philippians 1:11 ... fruits of righteousness, ...

FAITH

ä Hebrews 11:1   Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

ä :6   But without faith [it is] impossible to please [him]: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and [that] he is  a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

äCan faith grow into something more?!!!

Revelation 12:11 ... they overcame him (satan)   ... and by the word of their testimony ...

FAITH to TESTIMONY

Matthew 8:8   The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof:   {humble belief of what he had heard}

(FAITH}  but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed. ... :10   When Jesus heard [it], he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel. ... :13   And Jesus said unto the centurion, Go thy way; and as thou hast believed, [so] be it done unto thee.

(TESTIMONY}  And his servant was healed in the selfsame hour.

How can we have it, the faith of Jesus?

Will you invite God’s presence into your life?

Born of the Spirit!

ä Remember a new born must take love and nourishment from his family.

Then he crawls at first, then walks and falls, but as he takes in more nourishment and love he grows and is able to do many wonderful things,

“through Christ that strengthens him.”  Philippians 4:13

Notice that between God and His people the Bible uses words like:

 Father and children    John 3:1,10; husband and wife; Ephesians 5:25,32; and family.   All these words refer to love relationships. Also Friend relationships  John 15:13,14;

RELATIONSHIPS

ä Close relationships have certain commitments to the relationships.

ä Giving of ourselves, our time, our means, talking and lessening, dining together.

Getting to know the other person, inviting that person into your dwelling and many other things.

Are there examples in the Bible of people that thought they were workers for Jesus
and thought they knew God, but did not?!

Matthew   7:20   Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.  :21   Not every one that saith unto me, (Jesus) Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.  :22   Many will say to me (Jesus) in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? (in the name of Jesus) and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?

:23   And then will I (Jesus) profess unto them,

I never knew you:  depart from me,  ye that work iniquity.

Is God’s word being perfected in you, are you truly getting to know God

through Jesus?

1 John  2:3   And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.  :4   He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.  :5   But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.

How may I unite with  Jesus?

ä Acts  2:38   Then Peter said unto them,

ä Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ

for the remission of sins, and       ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Where do we get the power?

Romans 1:16   For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

ä :17   For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith:

ä as it is written, The just shall live by faith.

6:23 ... but the gift of God [is] eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Will you be judged by the things you do?

ä Ezekiel 18:30   Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel,

ä every one according to his ways,  saith the Lord GOD.

ä Repent, and turn [yourselves] from all your transgressions;

so iniquity shall not be your ruin.     :31   Cast away from you all your transgressions, whereby ye have transgressed;      and make you a new heart and a new spirit:

for why will ye die, O house of Israel?

:11   Cast me not away from thy presence; and  take not thy holy Spirit from me.

Is there counsel in Psalms?

Psalm 1:1   Blessed [is] the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.   119:9 Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed [thereto] according to thy word.  :10 With my whole heart have I sought thee: O let me not wander from thy commandments.

:11   Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.

Who is our strength and is praying important?

Psalm 37:37   Mark the perfect [man], and behold the upright: for the end of [that] man [is] peace.   :39   But the salvation of the righteous [is] of the LORD: [he is] their strength in the time of trouble.  :40   And the LORD shall help them, and deliver them: he shall deliver them from the wicked, and save them, because they trust in him.       55:16   As for me, I will call upon God; and the LORD shall save me.  :17   Evening, and morning, and at noon, will I pray, and cry aloud: and he shall hear my voice.

What must I do to be saved?

Christ = The Messiah John 1:41; Anointed of the Spirit Acts 10:38; Luke 4:18;     the Prince Daniel 9:25,26;   Son of the living God Matthew 16:16

Do you believe that:

äYou need to be ruled by  Jesus?

äYou are not good enough to save yourself, only Jesus can?

äYou need to let the Spirit of Christ live in you?

and thou shall be saved.

Jesus is coming to you personally. Will you open your heart to a personal relationship with Him?

Revelation 3:20   Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man (you) hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, (you) and will sup with him,(you)

and he (you) with me.

:21   To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.  :22   He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

John 10:10 ... I am come that YOU might have life, and that YOU might have [it] more abundantly.

ä :14  I am the good shepherd, and know my [sheep],

ä and am known  of mine.

ä What does “to know” and  “am known” imply?

ä RELATIONSHIP!

ä        RELATIONSHIP!

RELATIONSHIP! WITH GOD THROUGH JESUS!!!

Jesus is calling you ...
will you accept ...

A very close personal  relationship with Him?!!!
