CAR BRANDS
& review
In starting,
we must discuss the different brands and the cars that are offered in the
market and being currently raced. This will at least give you an
overview of the competition and the different characteristics inherent
to a specific brand.
-
TAMIYA
- The most popular brand in the market today.
It is the basis for comparing any other kit in the market. It offers
three major series - The AERO, The MIGHTY and the FULLY COWLED - that is
composed of different range and variety of vehicles. In some stores,
the older SUPER series are still available. These cars are the highest
in quality but are the most expensive. Most vehicles do not include
motors.
-
ACADEMY
- Comes out with their own series of vehicles.
These are more of variants of Tamiya following the chassis types but having
different battery openings and body shapes. Academy also comes out
with their own hop-up parts which are distinct from those of Tamiya.
The kits come partially assembled, so it's easier for younger racers.
Comes with a stronger motor than that of the stock Mabuchi type motors
of Tamiya. Will hold its own in stock races.
-
AULDEY
- Made in China! Most vehicles are exactt replicas of the Tamiya line.
However a few months ago Auldey came out with a series of vehicles that
have their own unique features. Included in the new series is the
GALAXY FLASH that comes with a low bounce like set of tires and a TZ chassis.
This would be one of the best cars that this chinese company has created.
The Kits come with a motor. Hop-up parts similar to Tamiya are available.
One drawback! The plastic components are a bit too brittle and are
prone to cracks and breakages.
Auldey Jungle Pioneer
-
GOKEY
- Another brand made in China. Theese cars are exact replicas of the
Tamiya line which comes with a REAL stock motor! They are good for
beginners who are hell bent on testing vehicles and their characteristics.
Another drawback are the tires which are made of some kind of hard plastic.
One plus though is the hard plastic they use for the chassis. In
my opinion, the plastic is much better than that of Auldey. So if your
running in open races, these are the best replacement parts. Can
be turned into a racer provided some money is spent for modifications.
Gokey tires need to be changed as the stock tires are no good.
This car sports Ball bearings, Auldey large diameter reston tires and rear
adjustable damper break set. The rollers are stock and the set-up
is for technical speed races.
-
OKAMI
- Dreaded Fence Car from Japan. One
of the fastest in the market today. These are for experts and for those
who wish SPEED! Offers FRP (Fiber Reinforced Plastic) Hop-up chassis.
Check out the photos!!!
This is an FRP Okami racer. A definite speed demon that belongs
to a huge speed track!!! One of the most expensive Fence cars in
the market today.
-
HJH
- In the Philippines it is more popularly
known by its distributors name - AC. For those who admire trikes
and love speed races, this is the brand to choose. It is a lot cheaper
than OKAMI of course as these are made in Taiwan. The Hop-up parts
are great most specially the bearings and different front and rear roller
plates.
The Blue chassis is a dead give-away.
Only AC sells them.
Racing open and no money for Tamiya 17 or 19mm roller
bearings? Definitely get AC or HJH
-
TWINKK
- Made in China. The kit comes witth a 25,000 rpm motor. All
designs are patterned after Tamiya but all chassis comes in a distinct
navy blue color. The plastic is hard and durable and the tires are
soft and raceable. Only comes in 3 chassis types - FM (the best), TZ, and
Super 1. Intermediate racer user friendly. Parts are interchangeable
with Tamiya and other popular brands.
-
AA -
Makes good quality cars for a chinese brand. It is respectable enough
to race against any high end brand as what is advertized on the outside
of the box is what you will find inside. Also comes out with Hop-ups
that will give Auldey a run for its money. Clear green or simply
clear chassis will rival that of Tamiya. The cost depends on where
you purchase the kit.

Other Brandnames are as follows :
BB; HEIPAO; Kyosho; Quing Da; Tristar; Precious Stars; Dong Sung;
Squat; GT.
