Rollcage
Now that I've decided to try my hand a rallying I need to get the car prepared and log booked.  First up is the rollcage installation.  I go the cage delivered from Safety Devices who manufacture a 6 point FIA approved bolt in cage for AE82 GT's.  Seeing as my car has the same wheel base and should be basically the same floor pan I expected that the cage would fit perfectly.  After some a fair bit of messing around getting it inside the car and moved into a good position I was in luck.  The cage fitted as well as could be expected with tolerences etc.  Of course I need to strip the inside of the car to get the cage in.  Gone were the seats, carpets and loads of plastic.  Also the NVH asphalt on the rear wheel arches.
Here's some pics of the installation.  After cutting holes in the sills of the car to clear the weld nuts on the foot plates I reinstalled the cage to tack weld the plates in place.
Here's the front RHD side front foot plate tacked in and ready for it's full welding.
Here's the front LHD side front foot plate fully welded in place.  I added an extra triangle of plate to the front corner of both the front foot plates to add a little more strength and weld area.  You can see the primered rust repair on the left and some of the welds i did along the lower door seam on the right.
The finished article.  All of the area cleaned, primered, top coated and clear coated for protection.
One extra job on this mount is the grinding back a little of some weld as the front bolt just fouls when I tighten it down.
