TRAVELN' FOOLS.
FROM AUSTIN, TX TO DETROIT, MI TO TORONTO TO WASHINGTON D.C. TO N.Y.C. AND TORONTO ONCE MORE.
SUMMER 2001 - VISTEON INTERNSHIP

These are a select few pictures from my trip this summer.  It all started by just going up to Ann Arbor/Dearborn, Michigan for my internship at Visteon Chassis Systems.  My roommates and I then ventured out to Detroit, and it all went crazy from there.  In 3 months I have managed to log more miles than I have ever before, and my car has seen some crazy and wonderful places.  For instance, driving through the Appalachian Mountains in Pennsylvania was fantastic, while trying to negotiate traffic in New York City was just wild!

The people who traveled with me were Joel Pugh from south St. Paul, Minnesota, and "Super" Mario Antoni from San Juan, Puerto Rico.  We were all roommates, and they had to put up with me turning the living room into a garage, with tires stacked up and motor oil stored under the couch!  Thanks guys!

DETROIT, MICHIGAN
East on I-94 from Ann Arbor

My car posing in one of the chicanes on Belle Isle Raceway.  Belle Isle is a small island right off the downtown Detroit.  It is the site of the Detroit Grand Prix, but the best part is that most of the raceway is open to the public!  Only one criticism, those curbs are HUGE, I can't see a CARTcar hit one of those things and surviving!
Here is a shot of downtown Detroit taken from the Detroit Red Wings' stadium, the Joe Louis Area.  We got a personal tour of the inside as they were preparing for a concert Prince was putting on (or is it the Artist Formally Known as... ah, whatever you know who I am talking about).
Comerica Park, home to the Detroit Tigers.  They have a really nice BIG screen TV.

TORONTO, ONTARIO, CANADA.
East on I-94 from Dearborn, cross boarder, North on Q.E.W. 401

Our First stop of the day, the CN Tower.  This is the world's tallest observatory standing at 1,465 feet.
Don't believe me?  Look!  I can prove it.
A collection of Toronto buildings as seen from the CN Tower.
The Beautiful Toronto skyline.  Toronto has got to be one of the most beautiful cities I have ever been to.  I won't mind living there at all.
Some friends and some relatives.

NIAGARA, ONTARIO, CANADA
South on QEW from Toronto

Niagara Falls, an incredible shot I was able to take while eating smoked salmon in a rotating restaurant.  Not only was I able to take nice pictures, but the restaurant was able to take away a lot of our money, and the food wasn't even that good.

WASHINGTON D.C.
South on 23 from Ann Arbor, MI, East on I-80, South on I-70 onto I-270 into the Beltway

This is the rear of the capitol.  We were able to go inside and tour the place.  I was able to see the two rooms where the current Senate and House of Representatives meet.  However, pictures where not allowed to be taken in those rooms.

The US Capitol still keeps the original room where the first US Supreme Justice held office (John Marshall, remember from high school history?) I found that interesting because it seems like the place is more of a tourist attraction than a place of business.

And of course, the White House.  We had a day in Washington, but didn't take too many pictures since both Joel and I have been here before.  Next day, onto New York City!

NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK
North I-95 (New Jersey Turnpike) from Washington, DC.

A real bad attempt at making everything go together.  These were NYC shots taken from the famous Empire States Building at 11 p.m.  Since the observatory is a a big square, I tried to take a picture from each side and paste them together.  Looks like I need more practice.  Send me back to NYC!

This is the southern tip of Manhatten that doesn't fit on the panoramic picture.  Standing high above everything else, you can see the twin towers of the World Trade Center.
A close-up of Times Square.  Notice how bright it is, can you spot Times Square in the panoramic?
Since it was only a before July 4th, the Empire States Building had it's tower lit up in red, white and blue.
Times Square at night.  Talk about a lively place.  Reminds me of Hong Kong.  We were able to catch a Boardway show, Cabaret, the first night we got to NYC!
Late Night with David Letterman.  Unfortunately, both Dave and Conan O'Brien was on vacation and we could not catch any of the shows.  However, we did take the NBC tour of the Rockefeller Building, and saw the sets to Dateline, Rosie O'Donnell Show, and Saturday Night Live!
The New York skyline during the day.  The shot was taken from the Staten Island Ferry.
Central Park fountain.
What kind of NYC experience would it be without the Statue of Liberty???
Is this cool or what?  I was able to find the firehouse they used for filming Ghostbusters.  It is an actual fire station still being used.
One of the props that was given to the firehouse after the shooting of Ghostbusters 2.  This was the sign that was stuck out in front of the building.

TORONTO AGAIN

We all liked Toronto so much, we just had to go back there again.  We didn't hit the tourist spots this time, say expect for the Toronto Zoo (it's big).  Instead we did a lot of shopping and eating.  Shopping???  Yeah, for chinese stuff I can't find anywhere else but here and Hong Kong.

I'm on your left, Joel is in the University of Minnesota hockey jersey, and the remaining guy is Mario.  Are we happy?  Oh yeah, after a nice round of Korean B.B.Q.!  Good for for a good price.  It doesn't get any better.

Mentos, the fresh maker!
Just goofing around in traffic.

BACK HOME

You can barely see us, but that's Antonio Gomez (Ford Taurus SHO) on the left, me in the middle, and Khiem Dinh (200SX SE-R) on the right.  This shot was taken somewhere in Oklahoma on the drive back from Michigan to Texas.
