-OIL COOLER INSTALLATION-

Racing in hot climates can take a toll on your engine. To radiate some of the heat motor oil absorbs, an engine oil cooler can be installed. After sourcing an AE86 oil cooler in prime condition from a junk yard, I decided to install it with a remote mount oil filter.
1. PARTS
These are the parts
I needed to successfully complete the system:
3/4" -16 spin on adapter
(1/2" NPT ports)
Multi-port 13/16"-16
remote filter mount (1/2" NPT ports)
1/2" NPT to 1/4" NPT
bushing X4
1/4" to 3/8" hose
barb X4
10' of 3/8" engine
oil hose
Hose clamps
Teflon tape
New size engine oil
filter
Sheet metal screws
1. PHOTO GUIDE
The oil adapter fits
in the stock oil filter location. The 4AGE uses 3/4"-16 thread, which
surprisingly is not metric.
The photo on the left
also shows the Autometer oil pressure sender that has replaced the stock
pressure sender.
The picture on the
right is full view of the adapter.
Remember to use high
quality brass adapters and barb fittings, and use Teflon tape. Otherwise,
leaks will occur in those
hard to reach places.
The approximate amount
of oil I used was roughly 3-4 quarts of Mobil 1. With the huge filter,
oil cooler, and 10' feet of hose,
your oil capacity
is going to increase. The added bonus of using a remote filter is
increased oil filtration capacity, since the new filter
is at least more than
twice the size of the stock 4AGE filter.
