Biography
Born in 1981, Hong Kong, Adrian Studied piano at the age of six. He then took up violin and viola the year after. He joined the Hong Kong Youth String Orchestra in 1991.

Adrian and his family moved to Sydney, Australia, in 1992. He won music scholarships to St.Joseph's College and
Knox Grammar School, where he began his high school studies. He performed in Knox-Abbotsleigh Youth Orchestra and various chamber ensembles that won first prizes in several Eisteddfods. At the age of sixteen he received his A.Mus.A. on violin performance. In 2001 Adrian performed Nicholas Ng's By Crescent and Magpie Song for violin and piano at The Studio, Sydney Opera House as part of Sydney's Spring Festival. He also premiered Samson Kar-Fai Young's Fantasy for violin and Javanese Gamelan in the same year. He is currently a member of the Australian Youth Orchestra and has performed with the SBS Youth Orchestra and Sydney University Symphony Orchestra for several years. In July this year, Adrian will be performing with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra as part of the TSO/AYO Orchestral Development Program. His violin teachers included Peter Zhang and Fan Ting. His current teacher is Maria Durek.

As a composer, Adrian produced several works for his HSC 3-Unit music course in which he was placed on the 1998 HSC Merit List. His work
Torque was premiered at the Two Generations of Composers concert at the Great Hall of the University of Sydney in 2000, alongside works by composers such as Anne Boyd and Kirsty Beilharz. His orchestral works Chroma, DynaMin and Impulsion were premiered by the Sydney University Symphony Orchestra in 2001, 2002 and 2004 respectively. DynaMin was also one of three works chosen for Ku-Ring Gai Philharmonic Orchestra's Young Composers Workshop in July 2003. Adrian's other major work during that period included Concerto for Piano and Orchestra.

In 2003, Adrian was selected as an associate composer by the Australian Music Centre, becoming the second youngest composer in Australia to have gained such status. In January 2004 Adrian participated in the Australian National Music Camp's Composition Program; it led to a performance of
Insomnia, performed by Peter Exton, Esther van Stralen and Jon Tooby. His Dance Remix ver.1 for solo piano was premiered by AARK ensemble later that year.

In mid-2004, Adrian participated in Symphony Australia's Composer Development Program. It concluded with a performance of a new orchestral work,
Psycarnevale, by the Orchestra Victoria in January 2005.

Adrian's
Quietus was premiered by members of the Sydney Symphony Fellowship Program in May 2005. The same group will premiere SUSY: Beyond Microcosmos in early 2006. In May 2006, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra premiered his new work Within Shadows of Light as part of MSO's Cybec 21st Century Australian Composers Program. The work was broadcast live across Australia on ABC Classic FM.

Adrian recently completed a Bachelor of Engineering degree(Mechatronic)(2nd Class Honours) and a Bachelor of Arts degree (Music Composition)(1st Class Honours) at the University of Sydney. He is currently undertaking a Master of Music degree (composition). He was awarded several prizes, including the Frank Albert Prize for music and the Donald Peart Memorial Prize for music. His past composition teachers included Anne Boyd, Ian Shanahan and Matthew Hindson. Other distinguished composers he has worked with include Georges Lentz, Richard Mills and the American composer, Martin Bresnick.

Adrian is currently the strings coordinator at Northholm Grammar School and violin teacher at Hornsby North Public School.
