Billboards

As I was walking down the street,
A billboard caught my eye
The advertisements listed there
Would make you laugh and cry
The sign was torn and tattered
From the storm the night before
The wind and rain had done its work
And this is what I saw:

Smoke Coca-Cola cigarettes
Chew Wrigley's Spearmint beer
Kennel Ration dogfood
Makes your wife's complexion clear
Chocolate covered meatballs
Will always satisfy
Brush your teeth with lifeboat soap
And watch the suds go by.

As I recovered from the shock
And went upon my way
I hadn't gotten but a block
And much to my dismay
Another billboard caught my eye
And like the sign before
The wind and rain had done its work
And this is what I saw:

Take your next vacation
In a brand new Frigidair
Learn to play the piano
In your winter underwear
Simonize your baby
With a Hershey's chocolate bar
Texaco's the beauty aid
Used by every star
Doctors say that babies
Should smoke until the age of three
People over 65
Take baths in Lipton Tea
If you want to make this world
A better place to stay
Then buy a record of this song
And break it right away.
