Bristol Channel Federation of Sea Anglers

The Bristol Channel must be about the most inhospitable sea area to fish within the British Isles. It has the second highest rise and fall of tides anywhere in the world, the waters go from clear to brown, yet specimen fish fall to the anglers, both from the shore and boats.

Both shore and boat anglers compete against each other in varied contests organised by the BCFSA, with a Small Boats Section running it's own competitions.

The BCFSA hopes that if you are an angler who is not a member of a Club, you will join one of the dozens listed. We also hope that if you are a member of a Club which is not affiliated to the BCFSA, then you will see the advantages of joining.

Membership of the BCFSA provides Clubs with third party liability insurance cover.

Over the past years, the BCFSA has worked hard, helping out on various projects dealing with the environment. From heavy metal investigations, to tagging members of the shark family. We are at the present time deeply involved with the Marine Database; the recognised leading authority on marine fish in this country.

Clevedon Pier Sea Angling Club Back to the Index

Clevedon Pier is situated on the Bristol Channel, between Bristol and Weston-super-Mare. It is well signposted from Junction 20 of the M5. Despite it's slender appearance, it has to cope with the second highest tidal range in the world (47ft between high and low water on spring tides) The photo above shows the pier at half tide. The last three spans are the only ones not to dry out totally on a spring tide - although there's only a couple of feet of water there at that time. The fishing on both sides of the pier is onto sand and mud, so tackle losses are usually light.

The Club was formed in 1989, when the Pier had been restored sufficiently to allow angling to be resumed. We currently have over 200 members, living in areas as far away as Surrey and the West Midlands.

The Pierhead was officially re-opened on 23rd May 1998, and Club members have the exclusive rights to fish from it, into some of the best cod fishing waters in Britain.

Day tickets are available from the Pier Toll House, with fishing allowed from the spans only - 09.00 - 17.00 everyday (except Wednesdays from Oct-Easter)

Current Prices (May 1998) are £3.50 per rod

Club Membership is available to run from 1st October to 30th September each year

Current prices are: Juniors (under 16) £15 Seniors £60
