Upper Canada Land-Rover Association (UCLA)

a.k.a. "Team Daphne"

The Upper Canada Land-Rover Association (UCLA) is a very small group of Land Rover owning friends here in Toronto. We don't consider ourselves a club per se, we are just some friends who share an inexplicable fascination with an extraordinary vehicle. We are all members of the Ottawa Valley Land Rovers club, the oldest and largest Land Rover club in Canada, and amongst OVLR members, we have become known as “Team Daphne” due to some of our exploits. But Ottawa is a good five hours away, meaning we don't get to partake in as many club activities as we would like, so we have to fend for ourselves a lot of the time.

While there are plenty of Land Rovers in and around Toronto, finding folks who are interested in going out and doing some serious off-roading regularly, has been a problem for years. So it was only natural that our little group of keeners was drawn together and we have been out thrashing our poor vehicles since.

Over the years we have made numerous trips to some of our favourite off road sites, occasionally joined by a friend or two, and the following photos should illustrate some of the lame-brained antics we occasionally get up to in our aluminum steeds.

But as much as we enjoy our weekends in the bush, we spend an awful lot of time helping each other with repairs and rebuilds, both large and small. From oil leaks to tune-ups and engine rebuilds to chassis swaps, we have done them all. I for one owe my buddies big time for several major surgeries performed on my long-suffering 88 over the last seven or eight years.

And that's what our little gang is all about. Good friends, good times and great off-roading. Hope you enjoy some of the exploits that unfold in the following pages.
