1991
The promise of the Class of '89 was realized in 1991, as Art Gunther won his first Alumni title in 15:05, outdistancing two-time champ George Buckheit and fellow 1989 alum Andy Yim. The Albertus men pulled off the "repeat three-peat," winning their sixth title in seven years with what I consider their second-best team ever--four runners in the top 7 and 37 points overall. Debbie Grant Marshall upset Rita Keahon for the first of her two women's titles, but other than that, I can't tell you much.
One rather silly facet added to the results this year was the scoring of multiple teams from the same school. This makes no sense to me, and, fortunately, the practice has been eliminated. While the results book continues to record these results (and while it may be interesting that Albertus' "B" team beat the "A" team from five other schools), I have eliminated the superfluous teams here.
One last thing to note here: the Suffern men made their first appearance in the top three this year, thanks in large part to 1991 grad Tim Cox. A little portent of things to come, I guess; while it did take them a couple of years to get going, the Mounties of the mid-Nineties were a scary, scary team.
