What Went Wrong?

What went wrong? I'm a strong believer in the theory that it only takes one small, twisted event to create the worst disasters of the human race. One bad day away from the destruction of the world. That's all it would take. Once bad day for someone out there and a button gets pushed, the nukes fly and human life is obliterated. The power is out there, the switch is at someone's disposal. Kinda scary, no?
You probably don't believe me, do you? You've probably heard of all the "safety measures" that are put into play to insure that doesn't happen. Maybe that is true, here. Then again, do you know the only country which has dropped a nuke on another country killing countless civilians? However, the U.S. is not the only nuclear power out there and they wouldn't hesitate to retaliate if a nuke landed in our backyard. All because of one bad day.
Still not convinced, are you? Then let us go through the old history book for a moment. How about World War I? What started it was a wrong turn by the Arch Duke Ferdenand's chauffeur. It's even been suggested that World War II began because of an argument over how many telegraph poles Germany owed it's war debt creditors. The deaths of countless of millions Native Americans and other North American civilizations can be blamed on one man not reaching his intended destination. Even our prejudices and bigotry among social classes, skin color and religion can most probably be traced back to the Egyptians or Greeks who contributed so much to our modern day society.
Go ahead and look it up and you will see that any event worth writing about came from one thing that went wrong. One bad day.
Somehow, somewhen, somewhere that isn't documented, something BIG went wrong. Either a Creator made something she shouldn't have, primates zigged when the should have zagged or mankind in general FUBAR'ed, but something just isn't right. WE have an entire planet slowly dying because of our actions, its inhabitants are in an inconstant, irregular, violent state and we are stuck in the middle of it taking orders from irrational people because they are backed by the barrel of a gun.
We are such a primitive society it isn't even funny. For so long we have been calling ourselves a "civilization", but that is hardly correct. "a relatively high level of cultural and technological development" is the definition of a civilization. Do we meet that standard? I think not. Even relatively speaking, we are not culturally advanced, and as far as being technologically advanced we still waste fossil fuels to get from point A to point B. Does that qualify as a "relatively high level of... technological development"? Not in my opinion.
So what bad day lurks out there for you and I? I've already had mine. I guess all that I want to convey is a word of caution. When your "one bad day" occurs-- and make not mistake, it will-- be sure you choose an outcome you will be happy with when the sun comes up the next morn and the bad day is over.
